It's pretty wild to draft two guys not on BA500 in the top 10.

I guess they are taking absolutely no chances that they can't get these guys for 10K.  But they should be able to do better than this.

  • Lord you can tell some of the newbs here who don't understand how this process works in the draft. Been like this for a while.

@bmags you've been killing it with the draft analysis and profiles (and moderation, I would assume), thank you

Can't they at least find a senior who is decent?

Yeah, looking at his numbers..  There's nothing to be excited about there, except his 80 grade signing bonus.

This is the strategy people wanted. You go overslot early and take cheap guys from 5-10 for slot savings. Then 10 on they will draft guys who wont cost them pool money.

To me its the best strategy, and you just cant take a risk of losing hundreds of thousands because you took a guy who was too good.

Phillies just took the 101 mph guy.

My only objection is that the guy they picked in the 2nd round is not of such value that you should pay overslot.  Pay overslot for guys you pick after where their talent warranted.

A reminder for those that routinely ask and worry about "will X player drafted in the top 10 rounds sign?"

When do you expect to start to get questions on whether or not a first round pick will sign? Father's Day week? 4th of July week? Today? Yesterday?

Today. And I will pretty much ignore them all after this chat because nearly all drafted players in rounds 1-10 sign unless they flunk their postdraft physicals.

The Mariners draft is terrible. What are they doing? I find it unlikely the top player on the board at their picks have all been pitchers.

I was thinking the same. Them and the Rockies have been very underwhelming on the surface

They're drafting like their GM was a pitcher.

Ooo Cubs get Ethan Hearn.

Cubs finally with an interesting pick.

So looking up Weems' JC stats, he actually had a really good sophomore year. 12 K/9, 2.89 ERA, 5 CG, and only allowed 1 HR in 65 innings. I wonder if they had a report on him from then and saw that Arizona changed something with him that messed him up.

I'd like the Sox to target Millas with their next pick.  Need more good defensive backstops in case Collins doesn't develop his defense any further

I think it had a lot more to do with his competition against Jr college players vs Pac-12.

Moar senior.

Nothing Coop can't fix.

All good, they are just saving up to throw money at Hampton. :)

this one feels less like a punt than the previous 2 picks at least lol

They're sure saving a lot of money last 3 picks...

Hopefully not all of that will be eaten up by 3rd and 4th rounders, and we can make a splash tomorrow.

Patel has very good senior numbers.

I don't understand, are they saving money for a future pick in this draft or for the players we drafted in the first 4 rounds?

Much more interesting looking guy then Weems.

Both.  Picks 3 and 4 will be overslot.
