Why would he sign up for that, and why would the Sox want him for that role?  It's pretty simple, you better be able to strike out hitters if you want a chance to succeed in the majors now (for the most part).  Pitching to contact is antiquated.

Well someones gotta do it, and I sure as hell don't want it to be Covey or Detweiler. Would much rather have Nova. Idk who else is out their that would be good for a long relief role.

FWIW, there was an interview with Nova a few days ago and he was very enthusiastic about coming back next year. He didn't explicitly say as a starter only, but he seemed to want to let his level of interest be known.

God the Mariners are so bad lol. I apologize for ever doubting their supreme tank.
