He seems to be bad at blocking pitches also, which wouldn’t be helped by robot umps

Well, Lillian likes him since he hits left-handed, so there’s that.

Cease looks pretty much in danger of giving up a 4-5 run inning.  Well, at least the slider’s sorta working now.

I agree with you but I'm wondering if part of that is because he's at least trying to frame pitches?

but that's probably being too generous.

Maybe the worst 3-2 pitch for a ball I have seen this year

I feel like I've seen this Dylan Cease before, and a lot more of it, lately.

Yikes that wasn't even close.

No, he’s too stiff back there.  Same thing every scout that wasn’t a Sox employee said when he was in the minors

This is bad.

Cease won't make it out of the inning at this rate.

That was a hanger. Cease has nothing right now. If he buried a slider anywhere near the zone Jeffers would have swung right over it.

vaughn is just very fundamentally sound.  good throw in.

The slider is the only thing he can throw for a strike right now.

Playing with fire right now.  Settle down Dylan.

Keuchel and Cease keep one-upping each other in the race to be the one left out of the playoff rotation.

Dylan has never met a batter he doesn't want to throw 4+ pitches to.

Cease. looks so bad tonight. Offense is going to need to come alive quick.

he's been behind every batter, right?

Another hanging slider

AV looks like........he has played LF for a couple of years now, amazing how fast he made that transformation.

And there’s some who want Kopech if he could go at least 4+ innings…

Two straight hanging sliders hit moderately hard to Vaughn. Lucky.

Stone talking about how well he has acclimated leading to more DH time for Eloy gives me hope the FA feels the same.

If Cease can make it out of the 3rd unscathed, it'll be his first start in the last 10 that he went through the first 3 innings without giving up at least 1 run

This game could be very telling for Cease (inasmuch as a single game can ever be that telling).

He has definitely shown stretches of good improvement this year, but he still hasn't really shown the ability to find his stuff when it disappears for an inning, or when he doesn't have it from the start. He's lucky to have a shutout right now, but he can't really be trusted as more than a 4 until he can find his way to his B stuff when the A stuff isn't there right away.
