Offensively, the Sox are better in RF than either of the last two years

Any outfield with Luis Robert will be OK.

Can you promise no lingering effects from that severe hip injury last year?

When the corpse of Nomar Mazara is your baseline, you might want to set your sights slightly higher than a nebulous claim that they are “better.”

Ah, the annual tradition of VAfan trying to polish a turd on the team and sell it to us as a diamond.  Threads started trying to convince us that X mediocre or bad thing is actually some sort of bless

Garcia is a terrible defender in the OF.

What next, VaFan?   About how Kimbrel, Kelly (if healthy), Graveman and Velasquez make this bullpen so much better than last year’s unit that crumbled in LA the opening series and never quite recovered 100% from there?

In life, there are no guarantees.

It will be interesting to see who ends up as the presumed "5th " outfielder after ST. They would be the first promotion from AAA should the need arise. Obviously position ( i.e. CF vs corner) could also be a factor)

Last year they added Billy Hamilton in the middle of spring training after Eloy's injury. I would bet we will see at least someone similar brought into Charlotte on a minor league deal comparable to that before the season starts.

Right now the 5th OF is probably Garcia and Harrison. The advantage of their versatility is that they don't need the extra OF roster spot.

Is there a limit on the number of pitchers a team can carry this year?

Good point. And don’t forget that Romy Gonzalez is also a pretty good outfielder.  A roster spot for “5th outfielder” won’t be necessary, unless maybe it’s to get another left handed bat on the team.

The only limit to number of pitchers is number of roster spots. Right now, the White Sox have 13 pitchers, 10 of whom are on big league contracts/have no options remaining.
Giolito, Lynn, Keuchel, Hendriks, Kelly, Gravemann, Velasquez, Bummer, Lopez, Kimbrel. All are on big league contracts.

Cease, Kopech, and Crochet are still pre-arbitration and have minor league options remaining. They could be sent to AAA at some point, although this does seem unlikely.

Thus, as of right now, the White Sox have 13 likely pitchers on their roster. Guys like Burr, Lambert, Foster - they are likely to be optioned to AAA. They could be called up if there's a double header and the rosters expand, could be called up to replace any injuries (Kelly is likely to miss opening day).

If Kimbrel is traded, then they can either go with a 7 man bullpen, give his spot to someone in that last list, or sign someone else.

Thanks, I didn't know if there is a specific pitcher limit.

The versatility of Garcia and Harrison will allow them to carry an extra pitcher early in the season when the workload of the starters will be very limited.

Just a kid.

As the crow flies I probably live within 15 miles of you.  We should meet.

We pass by you when we go to the beach on Boca Grande.
