Come on man.....Diekman has pitched in big situations and head and shoulders better them Banks. Diekman gets lefties out......banks can't

This is actually one of the guys I thought would have been a better signing last off-season lol compared to Joe Kelly I’m 100% right.

August 1, 20223 yr McGuire was going to be DFAd tomorrow or Wednesday and Sox have no LHP in pen. This is a solid move. Hopefully more to come. Fact they haven't had a leftie in the pen all season was an issue.
August 2, 20223 yr Diekman at -0.5 fWAR on the season with a 23rd percentile xwOBA. Still really good against lefties, but my guess is Tony will use him incorrectly and erode any potential value.

It was replacing one of Tony's poor options with another. That said, I wonder if the Sox will acquire another catcher, unless they think Grandal will be able to handle more than 2 games behind the plate each week. Zavala as a regular catcher has to put fear in the hearts and minds of White Sox pitchers.

It probably wouldn't be more than an emergency option though. Some people on this site and Twitter seem to think this pitcher can help vs. lefties, but they are taking on his contract for next season. Walks are major concern though. Seems like they aren't expecting Bummer to be back soon (or at least not counting on it) and rolling the dice a bit on a guy they probably think they fill a hole with.
