Basically they are back down to around $60 million and looking to trade all their big names (Gray Helsley Arenado and even Fedde) to go back into "retooling/retrenching" mode for 1-2 seasons.

It's probably more like Bezos is willing to put together a syndicate of people willing to back a portion of the bank loans to buy the team. Doesn't the NBA show VC firms as well?

Single game offerings for sports that aren't played every single day make MORE sense than for baseball obviously...there's the sense that some games are "events."

Maybe if it was changed to buying an individual series of games or not.. .or all the Cubs games for a season against StL for example, SD/LA, Baltimore vs. Yankees, etc.

Why did Ballys go bankrupt with baseball traditionally a total moneymaker for those who televise it? The contracts awarded teams by networks makes the salaries possible.

Reinsdorf owning basically the biggest share of NBCSports Chicago isn't the Top 3-5 broadcasting deal in all of sports anymore... essentially, the AL Central Division opponents in the long/er term will get bigger slices of the pie, the equivalent of revenue sharing. 

This year, the impact of those missed Bally/Sinclair  payments/defaults might be more impactful as everyone adjusts financially, but the Sox are basically treading water and falling backwards on payroll from 7th to 12th due to spending increases by other teams as well as inflationary pressure in mega deals. 

 

Not sure what your question for Melody Hobson is. GRate field will not need to be replaced for 20 years or more. There are millions of baseball fans in and around Chicago. Retirees often relocate to warmer climates but the Chicago area will always be a great place to raise a family and watch our sports teams. When is the last time you attended a game in Chicago?

It's in tremendous shape, the Dodgers put a lot of time and effort into keeping it so. It may not be replaced in 20 years. They just had a multi million dollar renovation for the All-Star Game for example.

Yes, they just spent $100 million on renovations…but that’s pocket change compared to the Ohtani Betts and Matsumoto deals.  And twenty years is an eternity, the Rangers had three stadiums in that timespan.
