Fire Chris Getz

Interesting that some of Getz's biggest defenders weren't around last night but suddenly appear today.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Getz has done some good things, this past trade deadline wasn't one of them.

But OK, in a few weeks the season will be over and we can judge him by what JR allows him to do this off season assuming teams are allowed to do anything given the labor situation.

I suppose I'm labeled a "defender", and I was around last night. Do I have a duty to sit here, read and respond to a bunch of people yelling for the manager and GM that have this team a good 4 years ahead of schedule (by some people's claims, here) - to be fired?

I don't know what your understanding of a normal employment agreement is, but a GM works for the owner, and every owner "allows" their GM to work under the rules and budget laid out for them.

Yes, you should be here 24/7 like all good SoxTalk posters!

Anyways, I don’t think Getz should be fired for his trade deadline moves but I do think it was an awful TDL.

Your duty? Maybe that's the problem. It's not a crusade.

You just said this regarding the Doyle trade — “Sometimes knowing what you can do and then executing does look like arrogance.”

Show me the lie in that. They thought they could tap into his previous offensive success, and they appear to be doing that.

Not sure what these numbers are. A lot of people here were lecturing us for a good year or more that this team would not even be "competitive" until 2030, at the earliest.

So, I think you meant to say:

predicting 5+ more seasons of horrible records, knowing that's excessive = Genius

And a .632 OPS in a Sox uniform. .594 OPS on the season.

Why are you including his average on the season? Is Chris Getz now responsible for his stats on another team? Do teams usually send hitting coaches to other teams to coach up the players they will eventually trade for? That's an outlandish claim.

Usually, most people understand that a question mark at the end of a sentence shows that a question is being asked. Liptak seems to be inferring that the people who don't get so enraged they're still able to function must be on this site 24/7.

The suggestion is absurd.

I agree. People need to take a break.

Because it’s a larger sample size of his hitting performance on the season. I’m not convinced he’s been fixed since he joined the White Sox. The dude couldn’t hit for two years at Coors.

I liked the Castillo trade and thought it made sense. I also was hoping for another good starter and said they were short at the time. In hindsight, I totally understand why it didn't happen because they weren't interested in trading prospects for rentals.

Instead, they traded prospects for bad players who they thought they could "fix". It just made no sense to me. You're in a division race. Why take a chance on acquiring an aging pitcher who had been god awful the entire season so they could try to "fix" him midseason? That doesn't seem like a sound strategy at all.

You, a defender of Getz? I don't believe it. He must have been talking about somebody else.

He's been much better than that for a month is the point.

That’s great and all, but have you ever even seen Boston Smith and Mason Adams play?

They have Doyle hitting .250 since his arrival while playing elite CF defense. Sometimes knowing what you can do and then executing does look like arrogance.

You just cited one stat that has a low correlation to total offensive value and is fueled by an unsustainable BABIP while ignoring his K rate & BB rate (which are both atrocious) along with his mediocre ISO. His xwOBA coming into today was .204 which is 47 points below the lowest qualified hitter in baseball out of 246 players. It’s also 48 points worse than it was with the Rockies this year.

The fact you’re applauding the Sox for being arrogant for acquiring one of the worst hitters in baseball and somehow making him worse is why no one can take you seriously when it comes to Chris Getz.

"Defender" is way too soft.

What part did they fix? The 0% BB rate? The 35% K rate? The ISO that is still well below his one good season with the Rockies.

I’m hope that the. 636 BABIP in September isn’t what you’re citing when you claim the Sox “fixed” him. And even if we want pretend that’s sustainable or a somehow an indicator of success to come, that’s paired with 0 walks, 10 K’s, & 0 HR’s in 21 PA’s.

That sarcastic "might be competitive by 2029 at this rate" comment from Southsider2k5 sure has a long shelf life.

He looks good in a Sox uniform lol?

His BB-to-K rate is absolutely horrifying. Zero walks in a Sox uniform with 27 strikeouts. This is probably what it would be like watching Wolkow play, but without the homerun power.

And to be clear, I don’t think Getz should be fired for the deadline. I was very, very angry about last night’s loss and Getz holds a lot blame for our shortfalls since the deadline. I overreacted a bit no doubt. However, his stock has taken a big hit IMO and he’s got to prove he‘s the dude now. This offseason will be a huge test for him because a lot of pieces are in place but there are still a bunch of holes & weaknesses that need to be addressed. If he fails to make us a legit contender next year, then he really needs to start being on the hot seat IMO.

Yes, and those are much more predictive of future success than BABIP unfortunately. I love the defense and he does hit the ball hard, so maybe there is a chance he can figure s%*# out with an off season program. But so far, there is nothing to be arrogant about with his acquisition.
