2024 Celebrity Death Thread

Reiner was underrated as an actor and directed some of my favorite movies of all time.

These kinds of things are shocking as you kind of picture those types of problems not really existing in wealthy/Hollywood families. It’s similar to how I felt after Gene Hackman’s death.

EDIT: And I didn’t even realize he directed Stand By Me.

  • If this is supposed to be referring to me, my comment had nothing to do with the person. You had a poster LOL someone who was murdered over an opinion. That's scummy.

  • Parents confirmed he took his own life. We never know what difficulties the people in our lives are dealing with. Famous of not, life can be tough.    Call 988 to reach the National Suicide

And then you factor in the mans relationship with a guy like Mel Brooks, and the generational effect that group had on GenX is crazy.

His directorial run from Spinal tap to A Few Good Men is one for the ages.  He also was instrumental in acquiring Shawshank redemption and getting it into Darabonts hands because he couldn’t direct it himself

Reiner is one of the most talented individuals in history in any field along with his dad. His dad wrote all 35 Dick Van Dyke episodes per season. How the hell can one mind pull that off? And like u said: Spinal Tap to A Few Good Men and Harry Met Sally? All amazing movies, all different. And his acting ... that scene in All in the Family in which he thanks Archie for everything he did for him upon moving Gloria and the kid to California is so well acted it makes one tear up. And his acting in Spinal Tap, all improvised? WTH? He is a 10 out of 10. And even though I disagreed with his politics 100 percent, I don't give a flip about that. His brillance and intelligence deserved an audience. I saw him on some talk shows debating politics in a calm manner, not like most cable TV shows where they scream over each other. Rob Reiner rest in peace. The way he died saddens and sickens me. Disgusting. I love Rob Reiner even tho I never met him.

James Van Der Beek, 47

Brutal.  Last June, he gave an hour-long and in-person discussion for my company about being an advocate for health, awareness, and community.  It was shared live with the entire company via Teams.  He seemed like a cool dude and was extremely humble about his successful career.  I remember him saying that he was feeling better after treatment.  He is survived by his wife and six children.  RIP.

He was supposed to appear at a Dawson creek reunion last September and instead sent in a video, and when I saw it I knew he did not have much time left.  You can search for it and see, cancer had just ravaged him

Yes, he was pretty skinny when he talked to my company but I just assumed it was because he was finishing up a round of chemo.

Robert Duvall RIP. A good run 95yo.  Great actor

Jesse Jackson. A link all the way back. I remember during his presidential campaigns discussing the problem of American companies moving manufacturing jobs to lower income countries before anyone else was talking about it. While born in California he based his operations in Chicago and was a Chicago guy. RIP

I was just at The Lost Maples Cafe where scenes were shot for Seven Days in Utopia.

I actually ran into the guy randomly like twice.  Once in the basement of the Hyatt Regency waiting to get into a Soxfest, and then about a year ago, he was on a plane to NYC with me.

Speaking of Carradine, crazy that “Booger” from Revenge of the Nerds is 72 now.  Another sign you’re getting old/er.
