White Sox To Sign Jake Woodford To Minor League Deal

Another player coming off a horrible season.  Doesn’t strikeout anyone.

A little more information in this piece.

A groundball-first pitcher, Woodford posted a 51.2 GB% last season, placing him in the 85th percentile in that regard. This goes along with some of the White Sox’ other acquisitions this offseason as pitch-to-contact, high-ground-ball rate pitchers.

This move is a clear-depth piece and is likely one of many Non-Roster Invites that will be signed in the coming weeks before Spring Training.

2.21 ERA and 1.117 WHIP in a little more than half a season out of the bullpen in ‘22, ERA of 6 as a starter last year. Guessing he was out of options.

We're building a winning culture.

Getzie & JR just keep givng us more and more Christmas presents. How lucky we are

Eh, Charlotte needs arms that can start games - something they haven't really had in years.

Who?

What a battle it will be at Spring Training. 93 guys vying for those 5 starting rotation spots......in Charlotte.

He has good ground ball rates, at least makes up for losing Cronin on waivers in that regard.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve seen a pitcher with lower strikeout numbers.  Guy is a tee ball stand.

I'd much rather take a flier on a guy who can strikeout someone.

This made me laugh!

Having a bevy of guys we can throw out there for 2-3-4 innings of relief is likely a necessity if we have guys like Kopech getting pulled after giving up 4-5 (or more) runs in 4-5 (or fewer) innings.  Maybe out of all these guys were signing, someone turns it around. By DFA, trade, release or whatever means, I think we all know most of these guys aren’t around next year.

Miguel Cleto is still out there.

Somewhere in the world.

He’s now known as Jose.

And not related to Franco/3B.
