Probably still coulda woulda shoulda done that.

It’s the better deal, The pick alone makes it better.  Just constantly treading water by choice

  • AKME gonna try to turn in their 100 2nd round picks for a top 3 overall pick like they're at the prize counter at Dave and Busters.

  • Buehrle>Wood
    Buehrle>Wood

I had very low expectations and that is somehow still lower than them.

  • The Kings really saw the Bulls roll out Zach and DeMar for years and said "we'll do that "

There is simply no hope for the Bulls as long as AKME are in charge.  Their “plan” is to just be competitive most nights and hopefully be a play-in team or low playoff seed on a regular basis.  Winning championships are not important to them and therefore stars aren’t necessary.  Just build a deep roster of solid role players that battle for 82 games so you can continue to sell out the UC every night and rake in the profits for Uncle Jerry and his goober of a kid.  Insane that these assholes were recently extended despite years of failure and no vision.  But alas, when you have Michael Reinsdorf in charge, stupidity becomes a guiding principle for the org.

They had a first round pick from Memphis lined up and turned it down iirc.  It’s just so stupid, draft your own guy and pay him a rookie wage on a rookie deal, don’t add 12M for 1 year and then have to figure out if you still want or need that guy and have to pay him

Oof.  I wasn’t aware of this.  My guess is that they didn’t want to take on the remaining $21 million on Smart’s contract.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Jaren Jackson gets traded this year, he loses bird rights and the team he goes to has to be under the cap to resign him correct?

2026 seems to be the next legit time the Bulls can make a legit free agent swing and JJJ might be the big fish out there. He from Indiana so I wonder if he's a Bulls fan.

I believeeeee they could legit resign Giddey AND White AND sign a big time FA.

They could have gotten Jakucionis, Clayton, or Beringer with Memphis' pick.

“Bulls” and “big time FA” are two things that don’t belong in the same sentence.

I mean, when's the last time they've actually had the cap room to land a guy?

Stop it.

The Lakers haven't had cap space since the concept was created, and still managed to land everyone from Shaq to LeBron to Luka.

Except they must have created the space or in the case of Luka matched the salary in a trade. A quick look see says the Lakers had 61 mill in cap space the year they got LeBron. Luka like I said they matched with Davis salary.

And the Bulls?  Why are they unable to do this?

I mean they kinda are, Lakers traded away players and recieved back players who had expiring deals, which is what they did with Zach. They had Randle come off the books as well which is what will happen with Vuc.

Lakers didn't clear all the space in one offseason, they had a plan and executed.

Unfortunately Vuc is not Anthony Davis as well.

The Bulls haven't traded for a true superstar in this century.  The Lakers have done it multiple times in the last times years, as have the Suns, the Rockets, and others.

Facts.

That's also not what got this conversation started and I never said they did.

Then why are we supposed to believe they will now?

I would trade for Kuminga and take a chance on a young athletic 22 year old and see if he hits. Feels like he won’t be a massive overpay either given it’s his 2nd contract vs 3rd.

Vuc and Ayo or Vuc and Portland pick. Than at some point deal White - but at least the Bulls would be a young and athletic team with some talent - they also will be bad but far more worthwhile and interesting than last handful of teams.

I am a bit behind on the times, but I have questions about NBA free agency. What are Bird Rights, the amnesty provision, max deals, mid level exceptions and is the veteran’s minimum?

What other types of contracts should I be aware of? Why do teams do sign and trades instead of just outright sign free agents?

Also, why are first round picks dealt like crazy and what determines if a pick can be top 10 protected or not?

Bucks have been busy.  They just waived Dame and signed Myles Turner

Has anyone told the Bulls they are allowed to sign people other than their own?

I wonder if Ayton is willing to take the MLE. That's really the only true game changer they might be able to afford.

I think you use the term game changer loosely - but I don't disagree he could be a solid big man addition if they move Vuc - as a bridge candidate.

They are the NBA version of what Jerry wants for the White Sox.  Just good enough to sell tickets, but not so good as to cost money.

The Reinsdorfs stopped watching the NBA after the '04/'05 Pistons

They quit watching baseball about the same time period.

I'd complain about how the '05 Sox are becoming the '85 Bears, but I'll watch AJ hit homers off the Cubs in '05/'06 anytime
