Getz actually spent almost double that at $38.85 million on his acquisitions in the offseason, along with his additional signings early in the season.  See my post below for the breakdown.  He spent around $40 million dollars on mostly bums and only has Vargas to show for it.

The difference is over Fedde, yes?

Hard to call that wasted, based on his 2024 Sox fWAR and bWAR.

Wasted asset, of course, it certainly looks that way right now.

  • This was more of a "Hey Sox fans, I'm still alive. Prepare for more absolute suckage."

Fedde’s value to the Sox was only what he could be traded for.  It’s just like having great closer on a terrible team.  Fedde was a trade asset and Getz threw it away by trading him for a bust in Vargas.  Getz’s best signing of his otherwise awful overall offseason turned into a guy that the Dodgers wanted to dump.  He traded a 5.3 WAR for a -0.6 WAR.  Simply embarrassing.

The best Vargas ever did with the Dodgers was last Spring Training when he had a broken pinkie finger and the Dodgers literally told him not to swing the bat so he ended up drawing a bunch of walks facing bum pitchers in ST.

If the Dodgers couldn’t fix Vargas’s bat, the Sox have no hope to.

.889 career ops in MiLB is broken

Sure, but that’s never the way JR does it.  He always has a GM/manager chosen before the end of the season.  He doesn’t care about the best candidate.

And now he says he's waiting. Isn't that a good thing?

I tend to not quite count Fedde in that total since that signing seemed smart and very distinct from bringing in Martin Maldonado and expecting leadership to make a difference. Fedde was a gamble that could have trade value. Maldonado was to bring TWTW and make them winners.

And because Lee was just as bad as 2025 Maldonado and Vargas offensively last year.

As a fan I can only rant so much and then move on.  If the Sox are on their way to another 30 something win season next year I will be out early.

Lee was a young guy brought in to see if they could get something out of him while he had cheap control. He was not brought in by Domestic Violence Enthusiast Getz as one of his veterans for leadership program.

Unfortunately the best leader of all those vets was arguably Pillar...just not for the White Sox.

Did everyone see that article in the Sun Times a couple weeks ago on how the White Sox had bullpen pieces on their roster in ST that they let go and those guys have had pretty consistent success this year with other teams?

Declan Cronin was definitely one.

Cubs' lefty Horn?

Justin Anderson, Joe Barlow, Jake Cousins, Chad Kuhl and Jake Woodford;

98% sure 3 of those guys caught on with other teams.

Duke Ellis and Romy.

Erick Hernandez will probably be an All Star.

The White Sox kept horn through the spring and sent him to Charlotte after trading for him IIRC.

Okay hardly paid attention to anything but CHA starting pitching and Montgomery's struggles.

Unless JR is going to say they are going to abandon this stupid rebuild, I am not interested in anything he has to say.

Last year the Mets owner took the blame by himself ---- then there's Jerry

And now they're tied for third WC with ATL.

Basically Getz paid 6ish million dollars for Vargas plus two lottery tickets that they won't develop
