Yup, once the routine of putting the game on becomes embedded in you, you got a fan for a long time.  I even remember the Hogan's Heroes reruns that would air after The 10th Inning, usually joined already in progress.  Harry's routine at the end of broadcasts never got old: "Well, the cubs lose again, but hey, for all you do, win or lose, men in blue, this Bud's for you!  The executive producer has been arne harris.  associate producer has been joe cornejo.  Join us tommorow at 1 oclock chicago time for the leadoff man, as we try to avoid a sweep by the pirates.  So long everybody!"

I can't recall other 430pm shows WGN aired once hogan's heroes was pulled, only What I Like about you in the 2000s.  But yeah, I'd watch religiously, and began to again for CHSN this year until the callous rug pull.  Whatever, I was gonna patronise aurelio's, listen to XRT, maybe check out Windcreek someday, and get an estimate from 4 seasons.  Not anymore.

Do you remember any commercials from 80s cub broadcasts.  There was a Kevin Matthews one that always irked me, where a bunch of Wrigleyville barflies said a bunch of random things until KM's ugly mug showed up.  Couldn't stand that as a kid, the commercial was fun until he ruined it lol.

Your argument is short sighted. Eyeballs and viewers are what generate ad dollars. The more eyes, the more you can charge and it doesn't matter whether its OTA or a part of the cable package.

There's a reason ESPN pays a fortune for the NBA finals and then broadcasts it OTA AND on cable. It increases exposure which will increase eyes in the future. Antennas aren't a great full time solution so that Sox fan with the antenna may by a Comcast package when they move out of range or when they get tired of cloudy days ruining their picture.

As bmags said, sports are about exposure and by limiting exposure you limit growth which reduces eye balls and advertising dollars. Comcast should want MORE viewers in the Chicago area, not less, regardless of whether or not those viewers directly finance them or not.

comcast is selling off their cable networks. same as warner bros.

you guys are confusing the not comcast owned CHSN for xfinity.

xfinity wants the money from subscribers. they don't care about growth. They gave CHSN the money they asked for to hold off contraction. and then put CHSN on the highest tier.

Looks like any anger or sadness over the rug pull has subsided.

Maybe Jerry did this because he cares about us.  He didn't want us to watch wimpy baseball, so he replaced it with manly mma.  He wants to toughen us up, which is better for us.

In mma, they wear gloves to hit each other with, in an unforgiving octagon.

In baseball, they wear a cap! at the park!

In mma, the goal is to pummel your opponent into submission.

In baseball, the goal is to go home!  To be safe, at home!

I don't know bout yall, but I'm enjoying all the cool stuff on Stadium.  They even have bananaball, which was interesting.  We should thank Jerry for replacing Sox with sockem.  There've been great fights so far, the women's division has been lit too.

i find it funny that stadium's feed has no issues OTA but i never could watch more than 3 minutes of a sox game due to the signal crapping out.

WCIU to broadcast seven Sox games, including all three games of the Cubs series:

The Cubs and Yankees games make sense but if you are going to broadcast those Guardians, Twins, and Padres games, I’m surprised they wouldn’t simulcast even more games.  I would think they would all get better ratings than Fresh Prince re-runs.  🤣  But I’m sure there’s a limit since Comcast wouldn’t be very happy about it.

Yeah, obviously WCIU would air more than just Sky games if they could, but the teams are bound to their networks unless exceptions are made.  Good thing we have 7 exceptions now, which Comcast allowed probably because the top tier subscriptions weren't increasing.  So this is a way to advertise what you'd get if you buy the premium tier.  That's great for us, I was so happy to see the broadcast on Tv again last night, even blasted the commercials loud and clear since I missed them too :p.  "Hey there DJ, play that song, play that music all night long".

Thank You Jerry for giving us these scraps.  May you live long and prosper for your benevolence.  What a kind, good hearted man.

Does anyone here think this will continue next year and beyond.  Will cubs join in on the free samples as well

Which one was your favorite

I remember most of them so vividly:  "go with the spirit!  The spirit of 76!".  "Danley, building your garages with quality!".  "I meant a bud lite!".

But man, that Kevin Matthews ad always irked me as a kid.  Lots of Cheers and Golden Girls promos before I discovered how good those shows were.  That Lou Rawls ch. 9 promo was great.  Great song they should still use as their anthem.

People under age 40 probably cannot really appreciate how powerful and effective WGN's Cubs hype machine was from the early 80s until about the mid 90s.   Like you said in another thread:  Harry and WGN.
