I listened to the Sox just two weeks ago through the espn1000 streaming page when I was driving home.  This weekend I tried it and got the espn1000 “this game is blacked out in your area” recording.  Checked audacy during a cubs day game and it was the same thing.  It really sucks

Weird, I'm listening to the Baseball game on the ESPN Chicago app right now. I'm in Northwest Indiana though, maybe it's region specific?

So here in Indiana, And when i googled streaming CHSM, I seem to have two choices. Does anyone know if I am correct and these are both legit?

One is for a FUBO sports package for $30 a month.

The other is just CHSM for White Sox only for $20 a month. Is this second one legit. I would rather just get this.

Does anyone have CHSM White Sox only package for $20; does it work?

I capitulated to this nonsense and signed on to the $20/per month White Sox only. The streaming app has several glitches, for example, every time I open it to watch a game, it defaults to captioning the broadcast, and I have to click that off.  I am not certain why , but it suffers from buffering even though it is on the same network as other apps.

I have T-Mobile and Nord VPN but I can't see an option in T-Mobile for free MLB TV.

You needed to sign up for it between March 25th and March 31st.  But for next season, if T-Mobile offers MLB.TV for free again (they have offered it free for every year since MLB and T-Mobile have had a deal together), you just sign up and create an MLB.com account with your email, and you will be able to use your Nord VPN to avoid White Sox game blackouts on MLB.TV by assigning a location away from Chicago.  And of course, you can watch every other MLB game you want as well with MLB.TV.  I have Windscribe VPN and assign my location to England to avoid local Chicago blackouts.  🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 😀

I got the same $20 00 Sox only deal only, last Sunday. The app is compatible to my Samsung tv.
I’ve had the exact problem you’re having but have been able to correct it somewhat. When you are watching hit the enter button and notice that above the progress line near the bottom of the screen (I don’t know what it’s actually called) there are three icons above the line over on the right. Click on the one furthest to the right which is for Video Quality. With mine set to the lowest number (249p) I only get occasional buffering and it’s almost always when breaking to or from commercials and when that happens I then I switch back to the small screen which won’t be buffering and then back to full screen. Last night but only buffered a few times during the entire game. At the highest setting (1080p) it buffered constantly and I tried “all” the video quality settings including automatic and the lowest (240p) is the best for me. I guess the higher the video quality the slower it can take to load especially commercials. I had the same problem with closed captioning but middle icon where you find the video quality is for closed captioning. If it says it’s off but it’s still on closed captioning go back to it and click it on wait a few seconds and click it off.

Why was able to DVR CHSN the first couple days it was on Xfinity, and now I need a “subscription” to record? C’mon man!!

I was getting that message when trying to DVR an upcoming movie (Eight Men Out!)  on a basic cable channel yesterday.   Maybe it's just a glitch?

NO idea what is going on, but Comcast is AWFUL when it comes to technology.  Their website and apps are probably the worst of any major technology company out there.

I did a system refresh. It fixed the glitch.

Rabbit ears sucked because TVs sucked. I came from the era of nothing but channels 2 through 13 and some UHF channels. Every picture on every channel was grainy .

Technology has come a long way and TVs are built to receive streaming ,OTA  , cable and have browser apps. They allow us to watch what we want in several different ways. Broadcasting sports is evolving constantly and there are no easy answers even in 2024.

I'm happy I have choices and theater quality experience in home. If I have to role up my sleeves and use my brain to figure things out I'll do it.

It's better than paying $105/ month to DirecTV with a 2 year commitment. Any company trying to to lock you into signing away your choice to get a better deal somewhere else sucks.

I could understand if they said "Starting next year, no more antenna" but to take it away 3 months later with zero notice is just a complete disregard for the customers.

Huge punch to the gut, I was watching almost every game, now nothing.  F them, now I'll laugh if we lose 121 again.

This is unrelated but I do wonder about it a lot. I feel like baseball and most professional sports have gotten out of brand building and have been in pure exploitation. It's worked getting more money out of their core fans who were addicted...but how many others are becoming addicted?

When will the fact that a teenager in the suburbs no longer thinks about a baseball game as something they could do on a random evening in summer. Baseball is a 'premium' event you'd need your parents to pay for.

And baseball is no longer just the background of summer, always on. I need to go to my specific app.

I need to opt-in to baseball. It's not just everywhere.

I am coaching baseball now, the kids all love to play. None of them watch it save for a few who have diehard parents as fans (mostly out of town teams).

At some point baseball won't have their hardcore fans to exploit. When does the switch flip back to growing the game? It's more than making some tiktoks.

I don't think live sports have a perpetual future as a luxury product. It needs to be part of life, mixed in and around it. Not broadway.

Yup, this is huge.  Every cub game was on throughout my childhood, summer and baseball were intertwined like pbnj.  The 66 free games we got this year brought me back to that atmosphere, where every game was on in the background, at least.  Thats what hurts the most about the rug pull, I was getting used to the routine of anticipating, then turning on the game.  Just like Danley, bud light, cheers/golden girls promos, old style, feldco etc commercials were all a part of that summer vibe growing up, now windcreek, 4 seasons, culvers, yingling, xrt, b96, liberty insurance commercials were becoming embedded into the background audio daily, and it felt good to hear familiar sounds every day.

But Jerry said "F them poor people", so now the Palehose are only for no life losers who are sad enough to cough up 120 a month for the dreck that is cable TV.  If I meet anyone who pays for cable, I immediately lose respect for that person.  Imagine paying for "ridiculousness", reality shows, steve harvey reruns, pawn stars, etc.  F that, the Sox aren't getting a dime from me.  Let them lose, let the flubs sweep all 6 games for the 1st time ever.  I'm completely checked out now because of the rug pull.  Jerry had the chance to be truly bold, and at least give us a full season.  But nope, Comcast took his lunch, and made him fold faster than Springfield to Lyle Langley.  He's just a pathetic individual.  May the sox and bulls suck in perpetuity.

Whereas asking a GenXer that was like asking us if we breathed air.  Mtv was the one thing that united us all.  From the jocks to the nerds, to the stoners, goths, skaters, weirdos, wastoids, greaseheads... everyone watched mtv.  You didn't ask anyone if you watched the channel, you asked who their fav VJ was, or Remote Control episode.

Mtv and cable in general are crap now.

I want my CHSN.  If they were honest with us from the start, and said it was free only as a bargaining chip, then it'd be fine.  But they lied to us and said it'd be always free, and the reason was because they cared about the fans.  Stone cold lies, deceptive practices.  Grounds for a class action lawsuit tbh.  Does DumpJerry post here, maybe he can sue them.

Sox moved to WSNS-TV channel 44 starting in the 1973 season.

“If you want people to come, you can’t give the product away. That’s the way it’s been done everywhere else except Chicago for years. The best organizations, the ones that draw the most people at the gate, don’t go that way. They have limited TV.” - Eddie Einhorn to Bob Logan in the book, "Miracle on 35th Street, The Story of the 1983 Chicago White Sox."

Eddie was even worse than Jerry Reinsdorf.  If I'm not mistaken, he was the one who was really pushing for the Sox to move to St. Pete saying that playing at Tropicana Field would be a gold mine.

Those companies make their money being an ISP.

There really is no cutting the cord.  You are not buying TV but still pay to stream.

I remember as a kid coming home from school and seeing the end of a Cubs game.  It wasn't about whether they were good or bad but an identity with a youngster.  That was how they built a fanbase.

Now everyone has to pay to watch baseball.  It's the least popular of the big 3.

Soon the NFL will go in that direction.

Eventually no one will care except for that gamblers.

Yup, once the routine of putting the game on becomes embedded in you, you got a fan for a long time.  I even remember the Hogan's Heroes reruns that would air after The 10th Inning, usually joined already in progress.  Harry's routine at the end of broadcasts never got old: "Well, the cubs lose again, but hey, for all you do, win or lose, men in blue, this Bud's for you!  The executive producer has been arne harris.  associate producer has been joe cornejo.  Join us tommorow at 1 oclock chicago time for the leadoff man, as we try to avoid a sweep by the pirates.  So long everybody!"

I can't recall other 430pm shows WGN aired once hogan's heroes was pulled, only What I Like about you in the 2000s.  But yeah, I'd watch religiously, and began to again for CHSN this year until the callous rug pull.  Whatever, I was gonna patronise aurelio's, listen to XRT, maybe check out Windcreek someday, and get an estimate from 4 seasons.  Not anymore.

Do you remember any commercials from 80s cub broadcasts.  There was a Kevin Matthews one that always irked me, where a bunch of Wrigleyville barflies said a bunch of random things until KM's ugly mug showed up.  Couldn't stand that as a kid, the commercial was fun until he ruined it lol.
