I'm really not sure what Caulfield is doing. He seems to be praising Paddy, while mocking his contributions.

This is the norm for a Caulfield post

I’m not sure what people are even arguing here.  Paddy legit failed at his job, regardless if he was somewhat compromised by Jerry.  We have consistently failed to fully utilize our international bonus pools in an effective manner under both Hahn and Getz (at least so far).  And no, one good trade for Batista by Hahn doesn’t change that narrative…there are multiple years of money going unspent, pool traded to teams to eat option costs, and slot being traded for relief prospects that all flamed out.  As for Keller, it’s way too early to draw firm conclusions there.  The early talk is highly promising but we need to see some results before we anoint him our LatAm savior.

Just another borderline unreadable thread derailed by posters trying to out-snark each other.

Mic drops are fun, until we're knee-deep in microphones.

The WestEddy vs. The World (and Scott Pilgrim) isn't working for you?

Well...sometimes TaylorStSox comes in as well to play Devil's Advocate, along with Cali in his new role as Southsider2k5 foil.

do you do spoken word/improv?

SoxMachine from 2022 disagrees lol.

A day before Marco Paddy was named International Scout of the Year at the Winter Meetings, Baseball America indirectly showed why Paddy deserved such recognition.

BA released its 2023 preseason list of the top 10 White Sox prospects on Wednesday, and international signings make up more than half of it.

Here are those 10 White Sox prospects, with Paddy’s signings in bold:

  1. Colson Montgomery
  2. Oscar Colás (bust)
  3. Bryan Ramos (fading)
  4. Noah Schultz
  5. Sean Burke
  6. Cristian Mena (traded)
  7. Peyton Pallette
  8. Norge Vera (gone)
  9. José Rodríguez
  10. Lenyn Sosa (last chance)

This is a huge jump over previous years, when the White Sox were lucky to have two hand-signed, homegrown international prospects in their top 10.

Completely forgot about this dude.

On April 4, 2024, Jose Popeye Rodríguez was designated for assignment by Chicago.[11

On April 5, 2024, Rodríguez was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash consideration (yay for JR!!!).[12] In 38 games for the Double–A Reading Fightin Phils, he batted .265/.329/.422 with four home runs, 18 RBI, and 12 stolen bases. On June 4, Rodríguez was suspended for one year by MLB for violating the league's sports betting policy.

As of now, only 2 of MLB's top 30 White Sox prospects are Paddy signings (Ramos, Veras). It's quite possible that Marco Paddy had significant input for the acquisitions of Batista, Iriarte, Quero, Perez, Albertus, Bergolla, etc.

My beef is with the "oh, only Getz was doing a good job in the old regime?" narrative. Like Chicago White Sox dude said, Paddy failed in his job. Yes, he delivered some big names, and his connections probably made guys like Colas and Vera tip-ins. There's plenty of blame to go around, between an outdated Dominican training site, reticence in adopting newer developmental ideas, and a wariness of Dominican prospect ages. International should have regularly contributed half of the top 10 prospects. The fact that your list regularly shows his contribution as 0-2 tells its own story, and not that the guys he recruited graduated out too quickly to rank.

If ALL your STEM and STE(A)M friends volunteered for Sox analytics, would it make even the slightest dent in the Dodgers' march to world domination?

The Dominican has been a lost cause for over 15 years now since Dave Wilder.

But there are no excuses about completely ignoring Taiwan Korea (well, Fedde) Japan, Australia, Africa, India...

Paddy just got lazy and entitled.

Just like KW.

Hahn was just BAD...and Haber even worse.  Stupid is as stupid does.

Plenty of blame to go around, just not with the guy who was supposedly in charge. Keep telling your Chris Getz bobblehead that.

The organization just became insular. They stopped acting like a lean and mean company. David Keller and Getz at least seem hungry.

Sure, it's interesting to talk about Africa, India and Europe as "untapped markets", but it would be great if we tapped into the Dominican first.

And that makes zero sense. Perhaps you should ask the guy who started that dumb narrative what on Earth it's supposed to mean.

We’re about as “lean and mean” as Sizzlelean…at any rate, we did have Nicky Lopez and now George Wolkow from the “local” Chicagoland market.

Thinking Sasaki going forward, looking at Santander's deal at $18 million, then that means he makes $9 million income that can be taxed in Toronto, Ontario. Here is what TurboTax said,

$4.7 million in taxes on the $9 million he makes at home. That’s a big hit. Now we know why no HUGE star has signed there...they also went hard after Soto fwiw.

That's not counting the 81 road game checks taxed in the US at somewhere in the 30-40% range.  $18 million quickly becomes $10-11 million net after taxes.

Probably coming in the next 4-6 weeks…

Apparently, the Sox didn’t even have a seat at the table with Sasaki.  Probably because they didn’t fly Tadahito Iguchi in as well.  🤣

*Sasaki passed on in-person meeting**
The White Sox made a presentation to Roki Sasaki, the highly coveted international free-agent hurler from Japan, who eventually signed with the Dodgers. But they never moved to the meeting portion of the pursuit.

“It did not, it did not,” Getz said. “We put together a presentation. We were certainly hoping to get an in-person meeting. They decided to go a different direction to handle the interview process without the White Sox."

Sasaki just wasn’t impressed with the idea of meeting Benny the Bull at O’Hare Airport.  🤣
