You'd honestly have to be a complete dunce to think there's any justification for the level of spending taking place right now.  The Sox have already proven once they won't save and splurge later

It should've been a big signing in a series of acquisitions to push the team over the top. The problem was that it turned out to be THE big signing while other gaping holes were never addressed.

  • Loved the interview. Thanks for posting. I run a smallish organization and how he talks about delegating, getting info, process, etc. is spot on. Very impressive.

Some of us understand processes are more important than outcomes. Outcomes are are the result of processes. We're privy to Getz organizational processes and they've been excellent. He's completely overhauling the organization and it's going to take some time.

Was he using any of these can't fail "processes" when he ran the Sox minor league system? Players seemed as unprepared as ever to my eye. I bought into the Pedro Grifol processes when he was hired, and was made a fool. I'm not buying what I hear in a softball interview.

It looks like he took his experience there and decided to overhaul the system. Obviously he identified many flaws. Recognizing the flaws and having the ability to make changes are different things. In the past, he had to go through Rick, Kenny and Jerry and it's very apparent that Rick and Kenny no longer had a functioning relationship, so I doubt getting anything done was even possible.

Let's circle back to this, because I'm a little confused as to why you're using such corporate jargon for a baseball team.

Sports is literally all about outcomes, but it's a bit concerning that you don't seem to understand that. Anyway, we can table this for now, because you're going to follow up with some strange logic like "Well, the excellence is showing itself by creating more opportunities for success to rise to the top."

Getz job is to run a corporation.

We know.  You keep flexing on everyone who doesn't agree.  Getz is the only person in the organization who knew what he was doing.

Mike Shirley was hired by the old regime, and seems to be part of the decision making team, now. I guess he sucks, now, too.

Guys, this isn't even new.  Kiss the ring, y'all.

I have no idea what these strings are pointing to. Are they all strings about the Front Office speaking positively about the future?

I can't imagine being continuously surprised that a corporate spokesperson doesn't sound like a drunken, angry fan cloaked by the anonymity of the internet.

It's literally a key word search.  It's not magic.

Look, being close to people in power isn't impressive to me.  Being able to discern when you are being used for your audience, vs remaining alert and objective in that situation, is.  Repeating all of the same lines we heard through Kenny's time, and then Rick's time, without having a healthy skepticism, is the definition of wildly creepy.

Also, sorry I hurt you.

You searched through 13 years of my posts. That's fuckin wild.🤣

Have you not used a search function before?  Jesus, it is 2025.  I guess being impressed by that explains why Chris Getz can so easily impress you.

Hurt me? You actually took the time to search 13 years of my posts for a gotcha. I couldn't even imagine doing something that embarrassing. It's straight up weird behavior.

Apparently so since you keep circling back to it like a key word search is some evil magic in 2025.  Maybe it will actually wake you up a bit.

I don't think you understand how embarrassing that is for you. At the very best, it makes you look petty, but really it's just mad creepy.

If you find the ability to do a key word search "creepy", I think you are telling on yourself more than anything.  Being afraid of you own words isn't a good thing.

So what was the process when they locked in on Miguel Vargas?

As a fan I don't mind Getz. He seemed to be a good speaker/leader during the few minutes I watched before having to turn off the podcast cause of the annoying announcer on the left. I wish Getz well and I think he does want to win after hearing his comment on Sox fans wanting to win now. Getz-ie (I'm sure he was called that as a player cause it seems everybody is an 'ie' at the end of their name in baseball.

I get that we are trying to see the better side of everything right now because everything else is actual s%*#, but Hahn said the same stuff in 2016.

But I can point to actual people Getz has brought into the org.  Who did Hahn bring in from the outside in key positions?

Unfortunately Gene Watson.  Like I said, bringing in outside voices makes all the sense in the world, but you still need to hire the right people.  I do worry that Watson was a very bad hire and it highlights the risk that even if Getz can identify the problem areas he may not know how to actually fix them.

You're thinking wrong.

The process was sign Fedde (smart), make Kopech a reliever attractive to teams (smart) and try to squeeze blood from a stone from Pham (ehhh).

Who cares if the outcome was Miguel Vargas? We all know that sports aren't about outcomes.
