caulfield12
Dodgers have already used 30 different pitchers and 13 different starters this season. “They are currently operating with only four healthy starting pitchers. Their equally banged-up bullpen is leading the majors in innings, and was coming off five frames of work in an extra-inning win the night before. And by the time Hernández took the mound in the sixth, the game had long been lost, the Padres (38-28) teeing off on Sauer with three runs two-out runs in the third inning, single scores in the fourth and fifth, and a four-spot in the sixth. “I know that my job is just eat as many as I can,” said Sauer, who entered the game as a bulk man in the second inning after opener Lou Trivino tossed a scoreless first. “Obviously, today, didn't have as good of stuff, but I felt like I was just out there pitching my ass off, trying to compete and trying to eat as many innings as I could for the bullpen." “And knowing Wednesday’s starter will be left-hander Justin Wrobleski, who has a 7.20 ERA in three big-league outings this year and has spent much of the campaign in AAA, Roberts decided not to waste any of his other available relievers on the latter innings either, inserting Hernández as pitcher the moment the Padres pushed their lead past eight runs with two out in the bottom of the frame (MLB rules prevent losing teams from using position players on the mound until they face an eight-run deficit.” https://www.yahoo.com/sports/article/padres-rout-dodgers-real-laugher-045113563.html Edited June 11 by caulfield12
caulfield12
But even as Roberts shared that positive piece of news, the Dodgers were still dealing with another situation with their pitching staff. He said the team is having to “plan on life without” Roki Sasaki for “as far as this year.” The Japanese pitcher has been out since May 9 and has been working his way back from a shoulder impingement. Sasaki has been “not comfortable” and Roberts said that he is “not feeling that he can ramp it up.” “I don’t know if it’s pain… it’s more of a question for Roki, to be quite honest with you,” Roberts said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “As far as kind of the sensation, I don’t — it’s discomfort. I don’t think it’s pain. It’s tightness.” https://sports.yahoo.com/article/shohei-ohtani-return-mlb-mound-022632130.html Edited June 16 by caulfield12

Not going to be helpful in pen at under 97-100 and without much control...they might just have to shut him down or try shoulder surgrry, which is always an iffy proposition. caulfield12
https://nypost.com/2025/08/14/sports/angels-dodgers-fans-get-into-ugly-brawl-that-leads-to-two-arrests/ Terrible kicking a guy so viciously in the head over a freaking cap.
oldsox
Dodger fans are the worst. This reminds me of an incident in LA about 10 years ago when a couple of Dodger fans seriously hurt a guy because he was wearing a Giant hat. They caught those idiots; don't know what happened to them.

I didn’t,” said Hernández, who was playing deep in a no-doubles defense. “I [got] to the ball, I get the ball, but it came out of my glove.“ https://sports.yahoo.com/article/coming-off-sweep-dodgers-cant-031956917.html Edited August 19 by caulfield12

caulfield12
Dodgers three games under .500 since the ASB and foundering on pitching and offense. Big change from last weekend. LA going to have to go with Alex Freeland/bench Kennedy&Conforto and hope for Max Muncy's eventual return to spark the offense. Clayton Kershaw as best starting pitcher this season was on virtually nobody's bingo card. Edited August 24 by caulfield12
caulfield12
Schildt just can't pull the rights strings against LA. 4-9 head to head 1-7 bullpen record and ghastly ERA against LA. Well over 20+ games over .500 against the the rest of MLB. Left four best relievers on bench with a 2-2 lead at home in the 7th...could have been a knockout punch and a sweep but Dodgers back up off the deck. caulfield12
Sasaki might end up Dodgers' closer at this rate going to have to face the heart of a lineup at some point, but so far so good throwing 98-100 with that nasty splitter/forkball

Boston/Bregman option Dodgers and Yankees would all be in play. Probably 1B/DH at big league level.

He's likely your NL Cy Young winner and pitching like it today. Certainly could have used one more big bat like Josh Naylor. Kind of snake bitten organization (pun intended) with the Corbin Burnes injury and trade deadline moves that look to be coming up just short. kitekrazy
No matter how you try to explain it, it was a dumb move. DBacks actually got better after the deadline. Their pen improved which was a problem last year.
