I wonder if any of these sports bros, when they win some big parlay, if they give that money to a child in the neighborhood. Or when they win some online sports bet with another sports bro for a steak dinner, let a child they don't know have that steak dinner. No I totally agree. Still, it’s convention to give the kid a ball. It’s just one of those things.

In this instance, it's the guy's own kid, so it would be really weird if he didn't give his kid the ball. But if somebody catches a foul ball at a game, why are they obligated to give it to a kid? Are we supposed to stop at the ATM and get a wad of twenties to start handing out to other people's kids at a game?

September 7, 2025Sep 7 Cubs closer Palencia came in with a 3-1 lead and went HR > single > walk > HR > triple to blow the save before leaving with injury. Lots of playoff teams with some struggles lately.

September 9, 2025Sep 9 At least they won this one (and it would have been combined, which is a bit less notable anyway). 7 innings from Glasnow, 1 from Treinen, and then Tanner Scott gave up a double to leadoff the ninth.

September 9, 2025Sep 9 Mets are now the last remaining team to not have a 9th inning comeback this season. They are 0-60 in games where they trail after 8. Sox were 0-72 for the season (and 0-205 since 2023) until breaking the streak in Minnesota.
September 13, 2025Sep 13 This was fucking awesome. Rizzo is sitting in left field and Moises's first home run literally bounced off his hand. Rizzo couldn't make the catch. Bounced off his hand. He says "that's why I'm retired" 😅. How can you not be romantic about baseball?
September 14, 2025Sep 14 welp, the Mets lose again but so do the Giants and Nick Kurtz just hit a grand slam vs the Reds. 493 feet, my god. "good lord" is right. longest homer of the season and the rookie already has 2 grand slams. A's have a fun team. Edited September 14, 2025Sep 14 by nrockway

September 16, 2025Sep 16 Cal Raleigh hits HR #54 (on Sunday) and ties Mickey Mantle's record for most HRs in a season by a switch hitter. The Mariners are now in 1st place. https://www.mlb.com/news/cal-raleigh-mickey-mantle-s-switch-hitting-home-run-record
September 17, 2025Sep 17 Cal Raleigh with #55 and #56 tonight. He breaks Mantle's switch hitter HR record and ties Ken Griffey Jr's all-time Mariners record for HRs in a season as the M's win their 10th straight game. https://www.mlb.com/news/cal-raleigh-passes-mickey-mantle-for-most-homers-by-switch-hitter I'd be thrilled to see a Seattle vs. Milwaukee World Series this year....two teams that have never won a WS title and two teams that started out in Seattle. And no, that match-up wouldn't disprove MLB's competitive balance problem. The Padres, who are playoff-bound, have also never won a WS title (along with the Rays and Rockies).

David Stearns master class on how to build out a pitching staff. Just watched Stanek give up another homer. Why did they re-sign him for $4.5mil after he pitched to a 6 ERA for them? He's above 5 this season. You know what's funny? The Rays got Mike Vasil from the Mets.

Also added Rogers and Soto. Yankees and Mets both struggling mightily in their bullpens down the stretch. Luckily, Cincy and SF and AZ not pressuring them like CLE and Texas in the AL.

They're about to lose their fourth in a row. Guardians could sneak in, 5 games left vs DET, 4 vs MIN, 3 vs TX. All winnable with how they've been playing. Boston and Houston have medium difficulty schedules left, I could see Boston dropping out (would be almost as funny as the Mets falling out). AZ just took 2 of 3 from SF. Preferred either team got the sweep. Reds finish the season playing everyone in their division which is interesting...took 2 of 3 from STL but I don't see them winning enough vs Cubs or @ Brewers. DBacks schedule is pretty brutal to end the year. Giants have 4 games in LA then it's pretty easy. Mets should have the last spot secured unless they blow it in Washington...something I wouldn't put past them. I'd actually be surprised if any of teams currently in playoff position drops out. But it's been a really interesting race.
September 18, 2025Sep 18 This weekend will be a deciding factor for Brewers, Reds, cubs and Padres. I think the Mets situation will drag into next week. I really do not care about any team in the AL and would love a Brewers v Mariners world series.
