Interesting. Maton at 2nd base. Just yesterday I made a post about how It wasn't likely Maton will make the team because of the crowded OF and INF but that Getz needed badly someone LH to step up but that it was all RH who stepped up with good springs and no one except Maton really had enough PA to make a good impression . He's both an INF and an OF so I don't know for sure what he can play well defensively. I think original scouting reports had him 55 defensively at SS arm and range. I forget which thread I put it in, maybe Opening Day 26 man best guesses.

Didn’t know game was on. Turned it on just in time to see Meidroth look completely outclassed at the plate.

462 ops

Maldonado didn't beat that though.

I'm just leery they will carry four veteran outfielders now with Jankowski added.  Well six...really.

Never knew the backstory with Booser that he quit baseball, was a carpenter for 4 years then came back and finally made the majors at 31. Pretty cool

Yeah he and Shane Smith not getting drafted after TJS at Wake Forest are really cool perseverance/resilience stories.

(Almost makes up for Burger...)

I was thinking yesterday about making a thread about Shane Smith.

Then I thought "eh feel good stories around here these days aren't worth posting.  I'll just get bombarded with the guy hasnt even accomplished anything yet. Why are you slurping Getz and Bannister ? However, it would be cool to see if he can stay healthy and accomplish unexpected things in the coming seasons.

I'd have to read the Rule 5 thread again but it's not like anyone expected much. Personally I think the majority thought they'd take a hitter but in light of all the TJ surgeries and questions regarding Thorpe that they made a pretty good pick.

So....in light of the Thorpe "setback"

Who's the next man up after Iriarte and Nastrini?

Obviously they also have Bryse Wilson...but the pickings get really slim now between those two guys and the Big 3 (who I don't believe will see Chicago this year for control reasons.)

It might actually be Clevinger back to the rotation...as I just don't believe he can stand up to an every 2-3 days workload as a high leverage reliever with all of his injuries.

Still not sure if it's Wilson or Smith in the rotation  Are we?

No but Shane made the team but his role hasn't been defined yet but 5th starter seems likely right now.

Between how Smith, Martin, Cannon and Burke pitch or health, Wilson will likely get a chance to start at some point.

Better hope he pans out.  If this guy is a bust, the Sox rebuild is hurt that much more.

Maybe they go six man because Smith only threw 90 innings last year.

Or let Bryse start the season in the rotation due to some type of verbal promise that he would have every opportunity to start for Sox.

Ironic that Brewers' rotation is a bit short right now and we have two ex- Brewers fighting for the same spot.

He was the third piece of that trade. He doesn’t need to set the world on fire.

Don't see how it could be Clevinger, Caulfield, he's not stretched out enough.

It really can't be Eder.  Mason Adams would have been the choice a month ago, or Ky Bush (after Iriarte/Nastrini).

There had also been talk of Berroa starting but that never materialized for obvious reasons.

I guess the answer is Owen White who was with the Rangers during their WS seasons for a couple of games.

Or they could go to an opener and turn it over to a bullpen (and see if they can blow leads numerous times after the seventh inning...)

Shuster and Eder aren't starters right now.

They said on one of the podcasts that Schuster was probably going to be a starter at Charlotte with adams injured.
