Anyone think Getz was hoping some team claimed him?  I can’t see him ever getting another shot unless the Sox suffer multiple OF injuries.

If Fletcher makes it through waivers and he's assigned to Charlotte, that makes Colas 4th man up on the depth chart. I just get the sense that the dude's headstrong and there's no way forward.

So much for colonoscopy dude's sources.

Did he have a right to declare free agency after clearing? If so why would he not do that

No. He has less than 3 years' service time, and this was his first outright off the roster.

Doesn’t the player have to have over 5 years of service time to refuse the assignment and opt for free agency?

These damn rules get so hard to remember…

Ah, it’s 3 years of service time.

One of the things we noticed at the Home Opener was that our outfielders were all in great physical condition. Oscar Colas is not, he is a tank. That's not the kind of player Venable wants on this team.

I believe the question is "how many times can we f*** an employee over before they can leave?" and the answer keeps getting better for the players with every CBA. Eventually I hope they eliminate the draft, everyone is a free agent unless signed to a MLB contract for the season.

I think the majority of the board has been screaming for baseball players for years now. The majority of the last "competitive" rosters we had were loaded with plodding station to station big guys.

Then you will end up like NIL with the SEC and Big Ten professional equivalents totally dominating....East and West Coast would run all over the Midwest and Rust Belt.
