When will MLB Step In?

If I owned a team for 40 plus years and I was in Reinsdorfs place I would be absolutely mortified.  This is absolutely a pride piece of his life and while he is still making money I definitely believe he feels the shame of what’s happened, he just doesn’t have the motivation to do the right thing either in investment or selling

I am positive Jerry feels embarrassed. But unfortunately he doesn’t feel humility, and lacks a self reflective gene. The guy still believes in himself, and seems to feel victimized by circumstances. The fool.

Why would MLB step in? Manfred works for the owners, and not for the good of the game.

It would not happen. I’m pretty sure Jerry’s billionaire peers love them some Jerry. Unlike the entire city of Chicago save for a few Soxtalk people.

The Pirates were BAD bad throughout the '90s, '00s, and '10s. The Royals were BAD bad for most of the same stretch. The Mariners missed the playoffs for something like 22 straight seasons.  MLB d

Certainly he would take pride if it was thought by him to be a barometer of the quality of his stewardship, which I have no doubt he does. His problem is, and always has been hubris and delusion about the quality of his stewardship.

Looking at the purchase price, and the current valuation, I would think he could take great pride in his stewardship. I'm certain most of his investors are happy as well. As an owner who seemingly had a leadership position among the owners for most of the 90s and early 2000s,  he could take pride in being part of the fastest rise in valuation for all teams.

It just is not what fans take pride in.

But where has that valuation gone since 2006 or since 2010-2012 vis a vis other franchises?

From 8th or 9th in the majors all the way back to 17th.

Oh, so you’re taking stewardship of the quality of baseball off the table as a source of pride. No doubt you’re probably right in that case. But we are talking past each other

Step in to save the Red Sox from getting their asses kicked?

In both cases...the owners were responsible.

The players were responsible for 1919.

The back story of the black Sox scandal was that Eddie Cicotte was cheated out of a $10,000 bonus by then-owner Charles Comiskey.
