Sox Quote of the Day 4/23...

“These guys have been working incredibly hard and they’ve put themselves in a good position to take good swings, it’s going to turn here. We’ve got to keep continuing to fight.”---Will Venable to MLB.com

😆

I kinda like Venable. I also remember having to do and say some pretty stupid stuff at work to make it

thru the day,week,month .................

I don’t think he’s wrong. They’ve had a lot of good at bats up there. They just don’t have any talent.

I think some are doing that but some aren't. Maton, Amaya even Robert have had dreadfull ABs

I dont see it that way.

Well, to be fair, Maton and Amaya aren’t Major League Baseball players at all and Robert hasn’t hit like one for a long stretch of at bats.

Because he can't actually say "These guys fucking suck, what can I do? This is the garbage roster my dumbshit GM constructed, and I'm managing with both arms tied behind my back, with a boulder chained to my ankle. Anything I do is merely shuffling deck chairs on a ship sitting at the bottom of the ocean."

"and I was dumb enough to say yes to this job"

Yes it's a manager gig, but somebody had to tell him taking the job would be career suicide, right?

No offense to Lip but I don’t think he watches the games anymore. They look far more competent up there than last year. Just not delivering when they have guys on. Bases are far more active though.

To be fair, the Sox have made it pretty difficult to watch this in Montana.

I don't watch as often as I used to, who does anymore given the situation... but the bottom line is that any "improvement" is basically inconsequential since the vast majority of said players (maybe all of them) won't be around in a year or two and they'll be starting with an entirely new deck.

As far as the bolden part, well..."Other then the end, how did you like the play Mrs. Lincoln?"

How "competent" can you be when you still can't do fundamental things like advance runners into scoring position or actually get guys home from third base with less than two out?

The roster is basically comprised of stiffs, has been's, retreads and injury prone players. That's improvement?

Don't live in Montana.

Eh, what's the difference.

The truth hurts.

I think he’s right. That tweet about the swing decisions is a meme, but the at bats generally look better. One might think it takes some time to “put it all together” when given new instruction and being expected to perform it to perfection while on the job.

I think Vaughn is a lost cause pretty much for this reason. He never improves his game or tries to do anything different. Beats the dead horse, connects  on the fastball for a month, inevitably goes back to being the worst first baseman in the league.

Meanwhile, LuBob’s stats are dreadful, but he’s actually doing a new thing. He’s walking at an extremely high clip. We know he can hit, now he can walk, if he puts it all together he’s a top 5 player in the league. Cant trade him.

"If" is the biggest little word in the English language and consider this...will JR agree to pay his salary next year when all indications are they could be cutting even more payroll due to the expected labor dispute in the 2027 campaign?

I'd be surprised if he'd allow it so unfortunately if Robert puts things together you deal him for as much as you can in July.

Vaughn is a .700 Club guy, limited power cement glove and wheels like snow tires with chains. Whoever signed him should walk the plank over Hudson's Bay.

If Vaughn is such an uncoachable guy WTF did we pay him 6 million dollars to come back this year?

I think Luis has a couple years left and a team option, right? I’d be thrilled if he plays himself into a position where “we can’t pay him”. I thought this would be true of Tim Anderson, that he’d get the Swanson/Boegartz (pardon my Dutch)/Turner treatment, instead he gets cut.  Let’s hope Robert is more like Dansby than he is TA.

you make a good point about “if”, but what else can we go on? For either perspective. “If this” happens, the Sox suck; “if this” happens, they’ll be great. Some amount of faith is required to be a sports fan, I think.

I would’ve cut him. I’m surprised they didn’t. I’m not surprised because they’re been shoving him down our throat as “the team leader” but he’s bad at baseball and seems to have a bad attitude to boot. I didn’t like his comment “I don’t need to a change a thing” yes you clearly do.

Great post and poetic to boot. On the other hand, Tim hill is sailing his yacht on the Hudson and laughing at us on the way to the postseason.

Seemingly no faith in Elko.

Seemingly no faith in Baldwin or Sosa to play SS well enough.

Just don't see how learning everything at the big league level is going to make Baldwin a positive fWAR contributor when he makes so many fundamental mistakes...isn't going to steal you 30-50 bags and isn't going to hit much more than 10-12 maybe 15 homers in a stadium that relies on pop to win during the summer months.

We pretty much had that player in Romy Gonzalez...minus the higher grade speed.
