This s%*# is embarrassing. Who's making predictions? The Sox acquired a player making changes to produce. The defense looks real. The whole point of being a fan is to hope for production from players. If you are sure nobody here will be hall-of-famers who will make you feel better about yourself, why are you here mocking the people who are actually watching the games and assessing the players coming through the system? 3

caulfield12
“I don’t know. All I know is I caught the ball,” said Robert, in English, before returning to interpreter Billy Russo for the remainder of the conversation. “I knew it was a very high fly ball and I knew that I had a chance to make the catch.” “Just kind of a sigh of relief that I was out of it and from there you just go in with your stuff,” Burke said. “I definitely think that catch helped out a ton.” chisox.com

Vargas is on an 8 game hitting streak and Robert just might have turned the corner...at any rate, they're much more competitive than last season, even if the actual record isn't dramatically better. The overall feeling around the team is definitely a different vibe than last year with Grifol.
hogan873
Damn, the White Sox made this fanbase so miserable that a Sox winner thread turns into hate, insults, and sarcasm. Thoughts on the game, however: This is the version of Robert we need to see on a regular basis. Burke looked good after the shaky first inning (saved by Robert). Meidroth is back and already hitting. Baldwin is looking better every day. Vargas has looked much better since the adjustment to his swing. Obviously this doesn't mean he's fixed, and only time will tell, but there's a (dim) glimmer of hope for him.
Falstaff
I am happy to see Meidroth , Quero, and Baldwin all in the lineup. They give me hope.

Somehow this concept is difficult to grasp. Also, those posters will still be here if Vargas has a sub .600 OPS in a few months because not everyone is as obsessed with appearing smart in front of strangers on the internet. 3 2

I dont think too many have stated that he has figured it out and is ready to become a good player. Some have not written him off as an awful player and are entertaining the idea that it's possible.

It's the Soxtalk way. 1

You want "young" players starting, results be damned. You have 5 positional starters with less than 2 years' service time. You have 4 starting pitchers with less than 1 year's service time, and 5 relievers with years of cheap control. That's 14 players you could be watching for the next 4+ years that Getz has put together for you. You've gotten exactly what you've been screaming for. Prove yourself right. 46DidIt
I'm drinking the Vargas kool-aid. He used to hit with his back elbow tucked. I believe that was the actual source of his problems. Even when he was struggling he was still showing good discipline at the plate. Only time will tell but the fact he's had immediate results upon making the adjustment indicates it may not just be a fluke. These guys are at such a high level to make the majors whether they are stars or flameouts, I think the difference is really that miniscule that simply lifting that back elbow could be enough to bridge the gap. At any rate, not much to be happy about as a Sox fan, so I'm just going to enjoy the small victories when I can
WestEddy
Looking at FanGraphs, Miguel Vargas is tied for 8th highest fWAR among qualified 3B. (tied with Manny Machado at 0.6 fWAR.) He's also ranked 9th best defense in the game right now. If you have a 2-3 fWAR 3B, really just based on his defense, so far, that's a win. If the hitting is real, you have a keeper that you maybe even start talking about an extension at some point soon. He could certainly be a place-holder for Colson or Caleb Bonemer. A 3+ WAR place-holder is nice.
