Dump Vaughn on the Red Sox?

Recommended Posts

"One speculative possibility would be to turn to Rafael Devers, who hasn’t played a single defensive inning all season. Devers has never played a professional inning at first base. He’s obviously familiar with the infield, but Cora made clear at the beginning of the season that the Sox viewed him as a full-time designated hitter for the time being. It seems they want Devers focused exclusively on maintaining an offensive rhythm as the DH rather than getting occasional defensive work after being pushed off third base by the Alex Bregman signing.

That may need to change at some point. Keeping Devers as a full-time DH would essentially block any path to playing time for Masataka Yoshida whenever he’s able to return from a shoulder injury. Yoshida could theoretically play some left field, but that’d require pushing Jarren Duran to center and would only be an option until top outfield prospect Roman Anthony comes up from Triple-A. There’d be more flexibility if the Red Sox were comfortable using Devers at first base."    mlbtraderumors.com

Seems like Walker Buehler is also dealing with some type of shoulder injury...they need to get Giolito back to 100% or K.Crawford.

Bosox now have two aces from the White Sox with Gio back from the dead. Let's make a deal. I don't see Vaughn as a future major leaguer.

In the short term, it might be more Romy Gonzalez.

That's funny, too.

Although Giolito was hardly an ace in his last 1 1/2 seasons with the Chi Sox.

He got us back Quero at least...quite the steal when you consider how badly he bombed the last two months of 2023.

Drury?  Dalbec back to Boston?

Need to start clearing out this roster and making room for the next generation of players..

I saw that .My first thought was Casas body weight was too much for his knee to handle as he lunged for the base. He just buckled.

I also saw Semien doubled up by running on a flyball out forgetting  there was 2 outs. I know people make mistakes but  there are  scoreboards all over the field and you have the other team holding up fingers indicating outs and a 1st base coach whose primary function is tell you how many outs there are and remind you about the pitcher's pick off move.

I guess for as much as an infielder whisperer that Ron Washington is, he can't increase ballplayer IQ.

Theoretically, Boston could use some righty pop, unfortunately. I don’t think Vaughn has any. I bet they shift Devers and find a way to give at bats to Mayer or Anthony or both.

Anthony seems next in line.

Yoshida odd man out.

Mayer blocked for now by Story Campbell D.Hamilton.

Campbell is not a good defender. If Mayer keeps swinging it the way he has been, Boston is gonna find a way. He has been en fuego.

My guess is that Sunday, May 25, or Thursday's off day on May 29 are both great preset deadlines for the Sox to evaluate what they have in Vaughn, their RF solutions, Sosa/Vargas, Colson at AAA, their collection of catchers, the pitching rotation, etc.

That gives them a nice chance to see if Fletcher and Elko's hot couple of weeks are real, and whether whatever changes they've made are sustainable at a higher level. Same goes or C. Monty, whether he moves towards the parent club, or gets a 6 month lease in Charlotte.

He's also the leading AL RoY contender.

Once these three youngsters are in the lineup...Boston won't just pull them when they're hitting well.

Not pulling him. Looking for best line up fits. He has already played 3 games in center. May move him around to create room for Mayer.

Northern what happens Colson won't be brought directly to Chicago...it would never Charlotte or Birmingham first.

I'm talking about the week around Memorial Day, making evaluations about whether C. Monty would be moving towards Chicago, or they decide he needs the full year in Charlotte to cement his changes. Nobody is suggesting Monty will try a new swing, then go straight to the bigs.

What does moving towards Chicago but not mean then?

Just say he's still a viable prospect or likely broken with the Sox until a change of scenery trade.

I'll say what I wrote, and be done with it. You could just say you don't really know how to read, and leave it at that.

Lol. That was deliberately written in a vague/opaque way to cover any possible eventuality.

You can't fix your swing in AZ without competing against AA/AAA caliber pitching.

Okay, back to ignore you go. Your misinterpretation trolling's too inane to even try to deal with.

Truly baffled by this exchange. Seems clear to me that "moving towards Chicago" is shorthand, as it generally is in baseball discussions. for making necessary progress to reach the majors.

A swing-happy prospect getting their K% down is movement towards Chicago. A rehabbing pitcher hitting their targets for getting stretched out is moving towards Chicago. Colson heating up in AAA after potential swing fixes would be moving towards Chicago.

No one said anything about him coming straight from AZ (or being traded??) and honestly it feels like you have to work hard to try and interpret it that way.
