Player Development is going great!  But also, we don't trust any of the kids to play until we absolutely have to, and will invent roadblocks to ensure it.

  • Holy s%*#, the meltdowns over Dan Freaking Altavilla.

Such a great trend, we need homeless players because we don't trust the pitching dev at AAA.

This is weird.

He's pitched in 7 mlb games the last 5 seasons and got a million bucks? That would be double the minimum at this point. Seems dumb but not my money. Not like that guy had a choice either.

Why would Getz give this 32-year old bum a million dollars guaranteed?

Pto-rated.

He was actually released from his minor league deal earlier this week or last week so I guess they figured he’s better than anyone they can call up. But I’d rather just see a kid.

Minimum now is around 850, but yeah.

Minus two months into the season though, although I guess the million may be pro rated.

Pretty sure all deals are based on annual value and prorated, so knock about a third off.

Not until the second half.

Could he a few things. They don't think they are ready. Want to make sure they lose enough tohave a chance at a good draft pick.

Before everyone goes off saying I agree with absolutely everything going on, this is me trying to guess what they are doing by the pattern of what we are seeing. I have no idea if they think the propects are ready or not.

Meh.  Actually, I believe throwing fodder and vets into the bullpen in a lost year is fine.  No sense in bringing up young arms that may not be ready just to have them get obliterated.  Let the Altavillas of the world take the beatings.  Now, paying a schlub $1 million (after he was released from the Sox minor league camp this year) is strange.

I guess Hahn left so many good prospects in the system that were major league ready that's its a wider he was fired.

I don't know if I would predict great like you but it is at least trending in a positive direction.

Again, if there were an abundant near mlb ready players, Hahn would still be here.

It takes more than 1 year to develop players, especially if they draft high school players.

Damn, Hahn must have had a very weak director of player development and assistant GM when he was in charge.  Sounds like both Hahn and that guy must’ve failed miserably to not have any near MLB ready players right now.

I mean it's just bad process. I'd rather go spend 600K on a new field for our Latin operations or some s%*#.

I don't even know why I came in here.
