For once he is being honest, and correct.

Five years to competitiveness in the AL Central is just ridiculous.

The Tigers/Twins spending in the $145-147 million range is not the AL/NL West or East by a long shot.

With the lack of monetary resources that JR provides the only way to have a consistent competitive team is through the draft an development. This takes time. They could try to shortcut it like Hahn did. He did field a competitive team that made the playoffs. However once those players either got hurt or became ineffective there were no other players behind them.

I'd like to know when the five year timeline began... is Getz saying from last season, or did it start in his mind this season.

Five years seems long to me but much will depend on when Ishbia takes over.

I would go with when he started acquiring players and reshaping the organization.

Certainly not when he was Director of Player Development or Assistant GM.

Doesn't sound like he had much control of players then. He has been acquiring a very different type of player. Either that or he learned what wasn't working.

Here's another entire article from 2020 touting the organization's advances in data, analytics,  and biomechanical work, and all of the hires that Getz (Using "I", not "we", or "they") was making then.

That's gold.  This one made me laugh the most.

• Getz indicated Ben Hansen’s full-time role with the White Sox as a senior biomechanical engineer is an upgrade over his previous work with the club, as the team contracted with him when he was still chief technology officer with Motus Global. They view Hansen’s work as a route to both injury prevention and performance improvement.

Six pitchers with TJS this season alone, potentially two more. So much for injury prevention eh?

Dodgers have had 14 pitching injuries...

And a LOT more depth, although things are getting a little bit chaotic at the major league level.

Dodgers can afford for it to happen to them. At the deadline they'll just go out and trade for two more then sign three more in the off season.

The Sox can't or won't take that approach so keeping their players healthy takes on even more urgency.

And where was the biommechics facilty to test the data? Theory is one thing, practical apocation is another.

Honestly with how little things changed from Hahn to Getz, it makes a ton of sense.  Same weird line ups, same playing DFAs in key positions until the day they are released, over dependence on washed up vets instead of kids, blocking kids, etc.  Someone like Tony and/or Jerry still sticking their nose in to "help" would check out.

There are some here that really need to read this story and stop with the "Sox are moving to Nashville..." nonsense.
