Ishbia taking control by 2029?

My working theory is the timing of 2029 is basically that Isbhia is putting in the money to build the stadium and get that all done with, and once that is complete, Jerry sells off the controlling interest to him.

  • It's not the Suns guy, it's his BROTHER!! And if he wanted to buy a team for cheap to move, he'd have bought the Twins. He's willing to wait 9 more years because he wants CHICAGO.  Get a fuc

I think we should have a gladiator type event with the Ishbias vs The Ricketts.  Lions and tigers in the pit even

That and there are rumors Twins are in massive debt

That should have had no bearing on a transaction as he would have been buying the team on a cash-free, debt-free basis.

The Sox drew 2.9 million fans in 2006, good for 3rd in the AL that year.

In 2007, they drew 2.6, good for 5th in the AL that year. They were also 5th in 2008, 6th in 2009.

In 1991, they were 2nd in the AL in attendance, in 1992 they were 3rd, and the same spot in 1993.

Sox fans have shown historically that if you put a good product on the field, people will pay money to see them play. Seems fair. Ownership has not held up their side of the agreement.

Wonderful, what have they done in the last 20 years? You see the trend, right? Meanwhile the Bulls lead the NBA in attendance every year while putting out an even worse product (in my opinion, I don't watch them anymore). There's a $7billion building project going on around the UC, it's a happening place. Is 35th and Shields a happening place? I think it could be but it's predicated on the Sox staying put.

Everything you wrote is exactly the same with Oakland. The point is: fans won't show up when they're bad and that's a problem. Fans from around the world show up at Wrigley for a multitude of reasons, when people think of Chicago baseball, they think of the Cubs. Meanwhile they think they'll get shot if they go south of Cermak. I guess you might at a Sox game. You just get your car stolen in Lakeview.

I just don't think this is good news. It's certainly expected and it'll be a long time before anything happens, but I think we need to think seriously that this guy is more likely to move the team than the Reinsdorf brats would be. We need to advocate for our team!

Who would assume the debt?

He likely would have been buying their debt along with the team...right?

If that's the reason then why did he buy a piece of the White Sox?

What massive debt could the White Sox possibly have?  Hopefully all those Trajekt machines didn’t set your buddy Jerry back too much.

The sticking point was probably the transition between when Jerry controls the option to when Ishbia does.

I’m sure it was.  Drives me friggin nuts that Reinsdorf won’t even give up control for the good of the franchise to smooth/expedite the transition.  He can keep an ownership stake for a while for all I care.  Stubborn sob.  Insisting on having the right to control until he’s 98.

So your only two options are staying at 35th and Shields or going to Nashville?

I think that’s just nothing language to attempt to temper things down.

Or language to avoid an immediate tax consequence.

not sure the debt really matters — I assume that just reduces the purchase price.

Yep, the timing make sense.

I know people don't believe it, but it seems obvious they have been decently in the red post covid.

Makes sense. According to Warren it takes 3 years from shovel in the ground to complete.

Big time in the red

Oh they’re so going to Nashville

Worth reading. A reasonable way to look at the Sox future. Hard to say this guy is 100 percent wrong. Maybe this puts on hold talk of any new stadium.

It's not reasonable at all. He is mad that the guy's connection to the city is "he owns s%*# here."

There's no way the stadium will be built without a deal with the city or state to pay for most of it. Things don't work otherwise in sports. If a new stadium is built, it ain't gonna be at 35th and Shields area. Ishbia has no ties to that area and Bridgeport may be quaint but it's old money and Ishbia just isn't building in that part of the city. It would make no sense for Ishbia to build where the current stadium is located. Hello Arlington or somewhere downtown or yes, moving the team out of state which is most likely if the city/state don't build them a new stadium downtown. Or Arlington build them one.

yes. perhaps Montreal. I might still like the team if they move there.

The Chicago Fire are about to do it it without the city or state paying for it. Ishbia can do exactly the same, and he will do it at the 78.

Wouldn’t they have to start building their stadium relatively soon if that’s the case?  Doesn’t seem at all likely given the timeline presented.

Yeah the whole moving thing makes no sense with the sliding timeline on ownership we have.

Nashville won't build them a stadium either. They blew their wad on a football stadium.
