Are you sure ? I don't know so I'm only asking. How can an option be used if he's never been called up ? Once you are called up wouldn't that be using his 1st option and then you can  send him up and down that same year if you want.

I think with the guys they consider key pieces like Montgomery they want him to bust down the door like Teel did with a run of superior hitting so he's less likely to be yo-yo'd.

Getz hasn't lived up to the Sox fans saying since spring training that Getz was itching for Montgomery to be the opening day starter or just promote him ready or not here he comes like a game of hide and seek.

I think he knows that Colson has to stick to those old sports cliches  about letting the game come to him and staying within himself to be a future contributor. Maybe breathing through his eyelids too. Name that pop culture reference !

If he doesn't make the 26-man out of spring training, they option him to the minors, thus using the option for the year.

A: Bull Durham.

Yes. He was on the 40-man in Spring Training. So to send him to the minors, you have to option him.

Correct. His 2025 option has been used, so if he were to flop in his first big league stint, going back to Charlotte doesn’t burn another option.

I was guessing that if true it had to do with being on the 40. Just never equated being on the 40 with options. Always thought it had to do with being called up . So  once on the 40 or someone else's 40 you start burning  1option per year until they are gone.

I'm 100% in agreement with this.

Although, at this point how do you take Meidroth off SS?  He has looked really good, unless some underlying metric says otherwise.

I think it’s galactically stupid to mess with Meidroth. He’s earned the spot, or at least the right to keep it until he falters, and just bringing up a guy just because, that’s not a smart organization that is doing that.

I didn't realize Meidroth's OBP was .383. While his BABIP of .336 seems unsustainable (or maybe not, based on his minor league track record), as 12% walk rate is really nice.

we still need 2 top-of-rotation starters, 4 front-line relievers (we have none on the 26-man, really), a 2B, 3 Outfielders, and possibly a 1st baseman.  And, of course, a bench.
I’m optimistic that some of the gaps can be filled with guys already in the minors (pitching, 2B perhaps). I think we’ll spend $ when it makes sense to do so (it made no sense to spend in 24 or 25).   I’m still leery of the quality of the drafting and when will we get back into the international game?

I hold certain prospects and players in much higher regard than your do  so I think your assessment is way off base.

Fair enough.
Who did I miss?

I did take a conservative approach.  I’m not counting on any position prospects yet because the promising ones that I see (outside of Colson) are still in A ball.   I haven't completely given up on some of the AAA guys, but not counting  on them either.
