Devers

Featured Replies

There were rumors for the past few weeks that Boston was going to trade Devers. I was hoping he would be traded to the White Sox. I  don't know what Boston received in return for Devers or how good they are. Still, his bat would have been a welcome addition to the White Sox lineup.

Lol, the Sox aren't adding payroll. No way, no how, not for YEARS.

  • Not counting this year, Devers has $254M left on his contract. JR would never, never approve such a deal. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend?

  • Fantasy - not sure how you would even think this would be possible

The package is terrible because Giants took on all of the money.

I thought with Ishbia buying into the team I'm hoping he pays some money for some good players. It would have been a great PR move for the team if they had traded for Devers. It looks to me like the Giants didn't give up much of anything for Devers.

Maybe years from now, but not for a hot minute

Devers is kind of an attitude problem. Not sure that's a PR move for this team.

Sox don't have anything to trade either.

Seems more like fantasy than reality.

Jordan Hicks’ contract offsets some of it. It’s possible that they have soured on Harrison, but how do you throw Tibbs into the deal too? First of all, bad for Tibbs. He’s 1b/dh compared to Red Sox outfielders, but also, the Giants farm system is not deep. Dumping one of the few hitters you do have is a head scratcher. Anyway, good move for the Wrong Sox.

I doubt that is the case until he’s calling all shots. We might get a nice stadium though.

Devers didn't want to be a DH. He wanted to play his normal position which is 3rd base. Who would you rather have playing 3rd base for the White Sox,  Devers or Josh Rojas? The Giants gave up next to nothing for Devers. The White Sox could have easily made the trade. It was simply a salary dump on Bostons part. The Giants fans have to be happy about this trade.  The Giants are picking up Devers  heavy contract. I wish the White Sox had done the same thing.

This year and next they aren't taking on salaries until at least the labor situation is settled. Or until JR is no longer in the picture.

How does adding a 28yr old DH help the White Sox?

Seriously. The Sox aren’t a Devers level hitter away from contending.

Devers was not the $300+ million one dimensional player you add.

Boston screwed up with Betts, but Bogaerts and now Devers will be addition by subtraction.

Posey overreaching in reaction to SF missing on so many big free agent targets the last half decade.

Why would the White Sox park a Ferrari of a player in the alley next to their cardboard box of a team?  It's pissing away money they don't have for no good reason.  You adding a Devers when you are good, not historically bad.

Would need 2-3 middle of the order hitters and a closer just to get back to. 500.

On a payroll where exceeding $5 million on a FA before 2028 isn't going to be allowed in order to control financial losses.

Yes SFG/Posey believe they're one more star on offense from being a serious threat in the playoffs.

"All in/going for it" with that massive payroll bump, especially the second half of that Devers deal in years 8-11.

But this very well might be THE one year that the LAD are most vulnerable due to all the pitching injuries.

(And look at where the Orioles are now after NOT putting all their chips in last year. Or the Braves, waiting on Acuna, Jr.)

It’s too bad we’re not a year or two (or a couple) further along and/or able to actually spend to make a move like this.

You add good players to a team to make it better. This White Sox team has lost numerous close games of no hitting. Devers can hit and play a decent 3rd base. He would have made the team better.

if the sox were slightly better i actually could have seen this happening here. b/c like with the Alex Rios contract that we took on -- Jerry will pay above market value if it isnt negotiated with an agent. if someone else already negotiated that, and he can take the contract on for free, he will consider it

he wages war with the agents unlike any other owner. hence the largest contract ever is on par with Oakland -- but we have run large payrolls

of course in the alex rios times, we had the cable money coming in

Sure...they'd be 20 games under .500 instead of 26 under.

Big friggin' deal.

And according to the media reports and the official press release Ishbia is going to be putting money into the team next year, but it won't be going towards payroll (probably by orders of JR). If it goes to things like hiring more scouts, developing minor league complexes or hiring analytic people that would be a worthy investment in my opinion.

You need to face reality sir, until JR is gone or until the labor situation is settled or both, JR isn't going to spend much on payroll nor give a tinkers cuss about how many games they win or if the franchise is an embarrassment.

Great.  So we win 50 games instead of 47, all for a 10 year contract and giving away prospects for a DH.  Wonderful.

I just read in todays Sun Times that the White Sox have the lowest team Batting Average in MLB. Adding Devers to the team  for basically nothing would be a no brainer for me. Not only would he help the team offensively he would plug the hole the team has at 3rd base.
