Sorry, the theory that was jettisoned was that greg " meant best ever for such late 1st round pick who had a series of ups and downs that had nearly everyone diubting him and quite a few calling him a bust /bum"

As you can see, it's just Montgomery > Frank.

You can go through my comment history and see that while I never tapped out on Colson I was down on him hard. If he turns into a Top 20 hitter all time, then sure. But like Cali pointed out, Frank raked from day 1.

I mean for god's sake, greg is using "BOOM" as an argument against Frank Thomas.

I also realize that by letting myself get pulled into this I've satisfied the feeding of the troll.

To redirect, it is interesting looking at Monty as a #22 pick, compared to other #22s. I got a bit down on him this spring and thought that if he achieved something along the lines of a couple other #22's, Kolton Wong and Jayson Werth, he'd amass 14-17 bWAR in his 6-7 years of team control. At that time, I thought that would be phenomenal.

Expecting him to hit the highs of Craig Biggio (23 bWAR) or Raffy Palmiero (27 bWAR) would mean expecting him to be on track for a Hall-of-Fame career. Chet Lemon also put up around 25 bWAR in his first 6+ seasons.

The league's going to adjust to him, he'll have some sort of sophomore slump along the way, but I'm thinking that he looks like his glove and power could buoy him along as an average to moderately above average SS/3B (2-3 bWAR, annually). But if he hits like this, omg.

TOO many flares to RF.

Too much topspin on his tomahawk swings.. resulting in 75-100 fewer career homers.

Poor defensively.

Terrible thrower...especially to second or almost never third.

Couldn't bunt.

Not a team player, stats first.

Not clutch in the post season.

Poor personal finance history until the last 10-15 years or so.

Not as exciting as Auburn teammate Bo Jackson.

Failed at being an NFL tight end.

Best hitter for the first 7-8 years of his career (without PEDs) than all but those guys like Ruth Gehrig etc.

Seems Montgomery comes out on top.

I've never seen Luis this ecstatic. They need to work on the handshake. Luckily they'll have the next decade (alongside multiple World Series appearances and MVP awards) to figure it out.

But seriously, what if these two combined for, like, 12 WAR next season? Conceivable.

Only need to go 36-7 to get to .500!  Start a new thread.

You are not a believer in Colson? It's OK to get excited about something involving the White Sox when deserved IMO.

Frank Thomas did nothing but hit from the time he was drafted to the day he retired.Pretty damn good #7 1st round pick !

I love Frank Thomas. All I was trying to say is our lowly White Sox, an embarrassment to those who pay attention any more, finally have a Caitlin Clark, a Connor Bedard, a Bobby Witt for those who think I love the Royals, a guy like the Cubs player with the 3 names. That's all I was trying to say. I worship MJ and Frank both in a baseball sense of the word. Not guaranteeing anything except you watch Colson rake and try to tell me he doesn't have perfect hitting form.

One thing going for Mead is he came up through the Rays organization, when they bring up a guy he’s had had good minor league training. Mead with the bat should get better because he never had a long run with the Rays, unfortunately when Vargas comes back he’s going to be in the same situation.

also honey

But everyone remembers the tagline...

"you're gonna like the way you like, I guarantee it"
