It goes back to the original post and the latest news of why Schriffen will be back.  Because we have an owner that doesn’t care about putting out a quality product.

And would rather hire half rate yes-men than bring in a superior product that might challenge him.

Well, the hope is gone. From mlb.com:

“He’ll be back for 2026,” said Boyer of Schriffen. “John is enthusiastic. He’s sometimes, and maybe this could be a detriment, he’s in it with the guys. He has created good relationships with the players ... that’s part of what we have to do as an organization. You tell stories about these guys.

“So, I’m comfortable, confident that moving forward, he’s going to continue to do that. He has worked very hard at connecting with fans. Didn’t connect with fans as well last year as he did this year. That’s always a work in progress. When you look at our broadcast last year compared to this year, it’s a significant difference. I’m pleased with that.”

What a dumb statement by Boyer. Who made him broadcast critic/commentator/grader? Schriffen is a homer obviously. We've had homers throughout history but they at least ripped the team for horrible play (Hawk, Stone, Harry, Paciorek, et. all). Does Schiff at least blast the team for suckage?

He hasn’t really gotten past the Sox being the greatest team ever yet.  🤣

Schriffen is not a homer, he just plays one on TV.

For what it's worth, the Chicago sports broadcaster traditionally was encouraged to be a "homer", because that's supposedly what the market wanted, going back to guys like Jack Brickhouse.

If you listen to any of Hawk's games when he broadcast the Red Sox, he was nothing like the Hawk of later years here in Chicago. He was still a character as a Boston broadcaster (as he was as a player), but totally objective when it came to calling the game. Hawk himself said that he changed his style to accommodate the Chicago market.

I think Schiffren has improved a lot since last year. And to me, he works pretty well with Stone. Honestly, he reminds me of Chip Caray. I caught a few Cubs games in the 90s on TV with Chip Caray and Steve Stone. And I'm struck by how similar the dynamic is with Schif/Stone as it was with Caray/Stone.

He is responsible for hiring and firing all broadcasters since Bob Grim retired.

Unfortunately this does fall within the purview of his job description.  So, to answer your question, Jerry made him all of those things

Obviously is was Hawk’s time to retire but didn’t Boyer sort of pressure him to retire and Hawk can’t stand him now as a result?

I prefer Beckham to Schriffen.  He's so bad.

The way Hawk says it, it was just “bye, enjoy retirement”

I think it was on Foul Territory where Hawk said ,"I didn't quit, I was forced out..." something along those lines.

Failed game show host who thought he would be working at Fenway Park.

Why is steve stone gone for the rest of the season?

he is notorious for not doing road trips. It used to just be west coast but last couple years he has been skipping east coast trips too.

That's what i don't get. The other day he was going on about what a fun season it was and how good the team is.  They could win out and have the worst record in the AL and the second worst in baseball.

As it stands right now, the Sox have the 7th worst winning pct in the franchise's 125 year history.  Hardly a "good" team.

He's fine for a AA/AAA team.

Needs to refine his broadcasting skills on an everyday basis, but those join bs probably won'the pay nearly as well and he'd have to leave Chicago as well.

And when Benetti did it, it was to work elsewhere, not to go home and chill
