Sitting 97 and topping at 100. He's a starter until proven otherwise, but it makes you wonder what he could pull off in relief. Any questions about his future as a starter have been put to rest. He and Martin are the only starters that you can pencil into the rotation for next season

And... Why get a closer? This team has another 100 loss season written all over it because of a putrid offense. No lip they have a closer this year there closer to 70 wins. Sorry it's the truth. And people might say woopsie do 70 wins well it's a 30 game improvement and with a young team it's pointing up. Not there yet and a long way to go but it's a good sign. But you are right about Jerry having crabs in his pockets....
Soxfest
So tired the last 3 years how many times the Sox grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory. It’s a insane amount of losses.

I’ve been told Taylor is going to be a starter anyways so I guess it doesn’t matter. Sox bullpen has been atrocious since Hendriks was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s. A consistently dominant closer can do a lot for a bullpen. 1
Princess Dye
Venable wants to go by the matchups and not have a designated closer. It's the new MLB, surprised some here cant see that.

Yeah it seems like the teams that are more match up based with the role are the ones that can’t really afford to spend on a closer.

Edwin Diaz got 6 outs last night and the Cubs really weren't all that close to even getting on base. There's no way that any manager would play matchups to get the last outs of the game if they had a guy like that at the end of their bullpen. 1

If you can get a discount on a guy coming off a down year like Devin Williams or Ryan Helsley, it's absolutely worth paying them on a short term deal to try and stabilize the bullpen next year. You can't keep blowing 20 games a year because Jerry can't spare $10 million. There's no point in tanking next year when you're not gonna get a top 10 draft pick anyhow.

No matter what the matchups say. 9th inning is different.
