MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox

MLBTR surmised Ponce at 2 years, $11M per to the Sox (by 1 of 4 writers). Kazuma Okamoto also strikes me as a not crazy option at 1B.

Out of price range for Okamoto...he will receive something close to Benintendi money.

Santos, Houser and Robert trades are all fine imo. Fedde/Kopech wasn't great, Cease was bad.

  • The National Equirer is more accurate than that guy.

You are a White Sox fan, so it is probably more like a -1 WAR 37 year old 2B who will play 1B poorly.

I think they'll trade Grant Taylor and Quero by the deadline next year

If they are on pace for another 100 loss season that is certainly a possibility if those two guys show anything.

I think it's a longshot myself but stranger things have happened.

Any interest in Frankie Montas? Being released and owed $17M next year so would only be league minimum.

Bring him back!!!

Hopefully chair throwing days are behind him now.

Getz will be the last call he takes.

Or Minnesota, due to even worse weather and team's uncertain financial future.

f*** it, give him a 2-year minor league deal. Stay home next year, come ready into camp for 2027.

Lefty hitting JJ Bleday interesting enough to add? Saw he was DFA’d

In other news…

Rays designated OF Christopher Morel for assignment.

Sure why not?

Guess he's getting more expensive, but a curious move.

Cubs fans told people he was a key piece to their future.

Except he never had a position he could cpmpetently play defense.

A lot like Lenyn Sosa in that aspect.

In his first two seasons, he did look like he would be.  But he never learned how to play a single position well and his bat then disappeared.

How many season tickets will that sell?

Actions speak louder than words.

Nothing happens without actually opening the wallet.

Fun Cease anecdote on dunk show with Justin Steele.

1) Valdez Cease Imai 4) Suarez

then group with King Gallen MKelly Giolito

"During that period at the Cubs’ Arizona complex, Cease hung out with Justin Steele, a future All-Star from the same draft class. One day, they went to a local gym with a basketball court. Cease started awkwardly dribbling the ball like someone who hadn’t played a lot of hoops, Steele once recalled. Then Cease gathered himself and staged his own dunk contest.

“I’ve only had one day in my life like that where I was doing these crazy dunks,” Cease said. “This must have been peak rehab where I had just worked out for 10 months straight. We were at, like, a Life Time or one of those places, and I was doing these wild dunks. I can’t do them right now. I don’t know how I was doing it, but I was doing wild stuff then."

Surely you are confident in the Sox actually signing one of those guys... right?

Want to bet Greg's house?

TBH, I don't think it's a great comparison. Lenyn is what I'd call "on the spectrum" for MLB defense. Maybe he's toward the bad end of that spectrum but he's an actual major league infielder. And I'm not so sure that he is that close to the bad end, particularly if he stops having s%*# for brains.

And of course at the plate, they are rather different. Morel light tower power but shocking problems making contact in the zone. Lenyn has a strong contact tool (and surprising power) but an astronomical chase rate.

Morel is a guy with physical problems (and gifts) while Lenyn's issues are ultimately all about decision-making on both sides of the ball.
