MLBTR Offseason Outlook on White Sox

Mariners have top prospects around the infield and just locked up Naylor, not sure what Sosa does for them. And with Julio in CF, Robert’s value to the M’s is diminished, unless he finds his All Star form at the plate.

They have Cole Young as basically their only 2B right now. Looking at the profiles there's a good shot that Sosa is the better player in 26, in what should be a contention window for the Mariners. I dunno, I'd argue you are never getting 9 WAR from a catcher again, and even regressing to a 4 WAR star puts them behind the 8 ball a bit. They need to try and improve.

Santos, Houser and Robert trades are all fine imo. Fedde/Kopech wasn't great, Cease was bad.

  • The National Equirer is more accurate than that guy.

You are a White Sox fan, so it is probably more like a -1 WAR 37 year old 2B who will play 1B poorly.

Raleigh has had 2 straight years at a very high WAR. Soon, it will be three.

Vinnie Pasquantino likes playing for Italy. Might be fun for him. People's heritage means a lot to them especially if they're close to a grandparent from the old country.

Newcomb expects to start 30 games. We'll see, I guess.

I like that signing better if he’s a reliever

There are going to be plenty of starts to be had.

Don't think this deserves its own thread but wanted to post somewhere

Maybe the change will end our streak of sucking at Kauffman

Apparently we don’t need @caulfield12 for our Royals news anymore!

We're all doing a great job working together during this trying time.

@Chicago White Sox is still evil for doing that to poor @caulfield12.  I wonder if he is through the initial “shakes” stage of SoxTalk withdrawal and if he has moved on to vomiting?

He is somewhat subdued at SoxMachine.

Do they have a full forum there? I thought it was just articles with a comment section for each article

That's it. The comment sections fill up, depending on the subject. An article on how the Sox are working the waiver wire got 80 posts, while a Podcast article got 20. Somebody might mention a trade in the comments, and a couple of guys might respond.

Harder to post random crap over there though, so probably not getting the same fulfillment as he does here.  Feel bad for the guy as he means well, but a bet is a bet and there are real consequences to losing.

It’s much less two way conversation over there.

Looking at this roster, I still think the Sox end up trading both Sosa & Lee before Opening Day.  Mead certainly sucked last year, but offers a similar hitting profile to Sosa, is a better defender, and has more years of control.  Given that Mead is out of options and Sosa should theoretically have some trade value after last season, I could Getz cashing in and giving the limited bench role to Mead instead.

The Lee situation is pretty obvious.  If you keep both Teel & Quero, there is simply not enough playing time for him and he becomes nothing but an insurance policy against in-game injury (which is a poor use of a bench spot).  He won’t return a ton, but there is zero chance he slips through waivers and must be traded if you don’t plan on putting him on the OD roster.  I fully expect a trade to happen at some point, although it’s possible the Sox hold into spring to hedge against injury.

A nicer guy would have taken the W and allowed him to continue posting.  🤣

He chose to be nicer to everyone else
