  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

They don’t even want to give him a chance at injuring himself yet again.  Probably the wise play.  But Jerry supposedly refusing to pick up any of his salary is a joke.

The not willing to eat money has already been disproven though no?

Do you really believe Jerry is going to pick up money to get a better return?

Jon Heyman says they aren’t willing to, while Ken Rosenthal says they are willing to.

Yes, 100% I do.

No

supposedly sox are willing to include money in trade with Robert. Behind a pay wallet but others read it

Direct quote from this Rosenthal article in the Athletic:

Quote

As detailed last week by MLB.com’s Mike Petriello, right-handed-hitting outfielders are scarce. And while Robert has drawn interest from the Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, he might be more likely to end up with a low-payroll team that ends up striking out on free agents – the Pittsburgh Pirates, for example.

To make such a deal happen, the White Sox almost certainly would need to include cash to make Robert more affordable. They are open to doing that as a way of enhancing the return, according to a club official.

Did Heyman actually say this?  You actually read the article?

It's also a smarter negotiating stance to start off with a higher ask.

“The Mets inquired about Luis Robert. But for the Mets to surrender prospects, they want money back to offset Robert’s $20M salary and hard-line White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf isn’t seen as likely to give money to Steve Cohen’s team.”

That’s nothing but speculation and likely related to Jerry’s direct beef with Cohen.

I believe the Heyman article hinted at JR having an issue with Cohen and not wanting to pay down Robert for him.

Jerry isn’t likely to include money because he’s Jerry.  Having a beef with Cohen makes it even less likely.

Seems like he won’t give money to him but might some other team. Which is stupid, but at least it’s not completely “no money to anyone.”

That’s the type of dumb petty bullshit I could believe.  It also doesn’t mean Jerry isn’t willing to eat some money for other teams.  When it comes to insiders, I will always place Ken Rosenthal’s info above all else.

Remember when we wouldn't make a trade to the Twins but helped out the Royals?

Can’t help your top division rivals when you don’t want to wait a year to compete.

Ken says pretty definitively they are willing to eat some money for a better return. The reaction on here...that's impossible. I'm sure Ken was pulling that report out of thin air.

Like most Sox fans that know how our owner is, I’ll believe it when I see it.

They sent 4 million in the Eloy trade but I guess that was too long ago.

And what "top" prospect did they get back in return?

Haha, no one wanted the guy so they had to include money to save money.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/07/white-sox-trade-eloy-jimenez-orioles.html

”Chicago is reportedly kicking in $4MM to cover almost all of the approximate $4.26MM remaining on his contract. The Sox would also pay down $1.5MM of the $3MM buyout on Jimenez’s 2025 club option, which the O’s are virtually certain to decline.”
