Robert Thread: Sox talking to Reds, Mets

Featured Replies

Would be surprised that Getz was even willing to trade with SD after the Cease deal.

SD has Laureano in LF (if not traded) Merrill in CF and he who shall not be bed in RF.

But other rumors have Laureano on a one year deal going out as part of a package for young pitching.

Such as Laureano and Mason Miller for one of NY's three promising youngsters.

  • They don’t have anywhere near enough pitching to compete if they kept Robert. None of this is about 2026.

    According to whom?

  • The problem is, if you commit to him being full-time DH, you’re relegating Quero to the bench. And I’d rather rotate the catchers there to get them the most at bats in a lost season.

Jerry did it to save money in the end.   You can’t be this clueless.  It was either that or eat all of Eloy’s remaining contract.  See my previous post.  Jerry ended up saving $1.76 million.  This is a terrible comparison and argument.

A month ago, SoxTalk was throwing out numbers in the $5-10 million subsidy range on Robert...

Really can't imagine JR sending anywhere near that higher side number along just to pick up a prospect...and it's not going to be enough for those who felt certain the Sox could get Crawford or two decent Reds' minor leaguers at one point.

If they threw Quero in as a sweetener, too...it would just be more infuriating.

I'm really curious as to why you threw in the comment about getting a top prospect back in the Eloy trade in reference to this potential one.

"Jerry isn’t likely to include money because he’s Jerry."

I don’t know what caulfield is talking about but it was simply a salary dump trade to save a bit of money.  The reliever they received for Eloy has already retired from baseball.  🤣

If you can’t identify the difference between the Eloy trade and a potential Robert trade, I am wasting my fingers typing.  Once again, Jerry saved money overall with the Eloy trade.  Don’t be dense.

Here's what I think is going on. You forgot about us sending money in the Eloy or trade or forgot the trade existed when you typed it a page ago. The rest of this doesn't matter because the point I was making previous is we have included money in the very recent past in trades. Your digging far too deep trying to diverge from that point.

No, I didn’t forget the Eloy trade at all.  Which is why I posted the article and quote so quickly from MLB Trade Rumors.  Your argument is an absolute joke.  Jerry saved $1.76 million on the Eloy trade.  It was either include money to dump him on the Orioles or keep him until the end of the season and eat the entirety of Eloy’s contract, including his $3 million dollar buyout.

The entire discussion was around including cash to receive a better return for Robert.  How does the Eloy trade relate to this discussion at all?  The Eloy trade was a salary dump.  The Orioles agreed to pay for half of Eloy’s $3 million dollar buyout because Jerry wanted to save money.  Period.  The end.  But I’m sure you’ll keep trying.

Sox officials are claiming that they’ll eat money for a better return. I was skeptical as well but that’s what’s being said.

May I interest you in Robert and Quero

The Pirates already have two catchers — Joey Bart and their former first rounder Henry Davis.  I doubt they would have much interest in Quero.

Davis has look like dog dookie and Bart may have looked worse. They have no catcher. Maybe two backups, if they’re lucky.

A .700 OPS from a catcher is fine these days.  They won’t be trading for Quero.

The Sox include money to SAVE more money, but hardly ever to elevate the prospect return.

Once again, the needless inclusion of Tatis in the Shields trade to save just $2-3 million extra per season on that onerous contract.

They had already added Erik Johnson, a former top Sox prospect.

And how much revenue has Tatis generated for SD?  Easily in the hundreds of millions.

Penny wise, pound foolish.

26.5 fWAR x $7.5 million=$199 million (if they were to buy that production in FA terms)

Maybe instead of including money, JR could send some international bonus pool cash their way. It’s one of his favorites.

We're likely going to here how Keller needs more time and/or the new Dominican facilities will require some additional patience before they can bear fruit.

Also seems a number of the bigger money kids they are connected to would be signing in 2027-2029.

Correct. The next two classes are still essentially Marco Paddy classes.

Why is it, if everything has already been determined for years and there is no one worth any spare money teams like the White Sox always have, that other teams, who do spend their money are willing to pay White Sox contracts in exchange for more pool money ?

Im glad they have changed things. But they supposedly changed things when they brought in Paddy and everyone spoke of him like they do Bannister, Fuller etc. now.

Why do teams need more money if it's already decided years before? If a 12 year old kid develops way beyond where everyone thought he'd be at 16, he might just decide he wants more money.
