Wasn't literally every MLB team doing these sorts of trades yesterday?

Yes, but these are key players to Getz.  He just got his platoon RF to pair with Tauchman and lefty reliever for the bullpen.  Any free agency acquisitions will be few and far between and likely of the same ilk.  C grade free agents.

Which part is stupid?  Or do you think Getz will sign some A and B tier free agents this offseason?  Seems like he already indicated he won’t be spending much.

Also, probably could have DFA’d Hill and added Pallette.

They could have just added Palette, anyway. Hill is probably non-tendered on Friday, now that they have Pereira. I'm guessing that from any trade banter, they sense no interest in Palette, and want the flexibility.

Yeah I know, but I was more thinking of the fact they literally added another RHH OF who would serve that purpose yesterday. Like if they were concerned about adding and still saving some space, it’s a move that should have been made.

All of it. I think the main part about you insinuating these were going to be the highlights of pickups this offseason did it for me.

WestEddy already mentioned that Pereira is out of options.  Do you think he isn’t making the team?   There’s no way Getz is giving up on him in Spring Training.  I seriously think he will the right-handed half of a RF platoon with Tauchman.  Also, the Sox really don’t have that many offensive positions to fill since they are stuck with Benintendi and probably won’t be able to trade Robert until he shows he can stay healthy and hit.  Getz will acquire a 1B, but I would be surprised if it ends up being someone even at the level of Ryan O’Hearn.  I wouldn’t be surprised if even he is out of the Sox price range.

By putting Hill through waivers and outrighting him, they'd still owe him his arb salary. They could ask release waivers, or whatnot, but seeing as they didn't need the roster spot, and it's free in the offseason, I believe the non-tender deadline is a cleaner release.

The fact that the Rule 5 draft is now perceived as something that can be successfully repeated as a viable strategy is almost beyond pitiful for a franchise based in Chicago.

Where is the so-called Sox Pride if the owner doesn't even exhibit it?

The Sox pick 2nd. Even picking up a free reliever is a viable strategy.

Bringing this back to full circle, I will note a few things here.

-Judging by the fact that the White Sox were willing to trade for fringe of the 40 man roster guys from other teams instead of putting their own internal guys on the 40, I think that tells us a lot about what they ACTUALLY think of some of these guys, despite what gets published about them.

-There is nothing wrong with looking to benefit from other teams roster crunches, and looking to marginally improve the roster, especially in areas of known weakness, such as the OF.

-FInd someone who loves you like Chris Getz loves a fallen top prospect.

-I have no problem with trading a guy like Gomez who is older and struggling to make it, but I am not as big of a fan of trading our younger guys like Ronny Hernandez.  Those are the kinds of guys we should be hoarding like a Boomer with bicentennial quarters.

-It's probably the PTSD talking, but after reading up about Murphy and how lucky his 2025 was, he is probably our next Wilson.  I get we need a LOT of innings filled next year, and they all can't be internal, but hopefully he proves me wrong.  I don't mind getting a guy like that in a roster dump for roster dump deal though.  Maybe Pitching Coach to be Named Later is really as good as they say he is and can fix him.

Yeah they should just added Pallette anyway. Honestly was thinking a lefty or two could go too before yesterday. Of course one retired and then we added one. Wouldn’t be mad if Gilbert or Eisert were gone next. Booser or Hudson too I guess.

Isn’t Booser already gone?
