Ofc, same exact amount that Adrian Houser got after being basically dead in the water prior to 2025. I think Fairbanks is trying to get legit closer money. Regardless of what Fairbanks ends up signing for, it won’t be with the Sox.
caulfield12
"ESPN’s Jeff Passan wrote on Thursday that Fairbanks was trending towards either a multi-year deal or a one-year contract worth more than $11MM. While it’d seem counterintuitive for teams to pay more than the declined option price, that occasionally happens. Option calls are due within the first five days of the offseason. Teams may have preferred to maintain payroll flexibility until they had a better read on the market." mlbtr.com "In an appearance on Foul Territory this week, Izaac Azout of Fish On First suggested that Miami has shown a willingness to offer a one-year deal in “the mid-teens” range and floated the possibility that Miami could make a $13-14MM proposal." Timmy U
Kinda saw this coming. I think Newcomb was the fallback position.

chitownsportsfan
Another example of a "poor" team spending money and a reliever at that. I don't think the public finances are accurate. 2
chw42
Apparently Fairbanks wanted to pitch somewhere warm because of his Raynaud's syndrome. He would have struggled in April/May in Chicago if that's the case.

He worked in a commercial cooler (eventually left) and it was debilitating for him. Dude wore heated gloves and it still didn't help. I remember he would go to the restroom for 5 minutes just to run his hands under warm water.

So, the White Sox probably had him for 2/$10M based on the exciting culture they're building, but he had to turn them down due to his illness. That's cool.

WhiteSox2023
Closer money, for one year at least…
caulfield12
Actually, up to $14.5 million for Fairbanks' 2026 if you include the Rays' buyout and $500,000 additionally in the likely event the Marlins are eliminated and trade him at the deadline.
