Munemania: Murakami and Judge pacing each other

Don’t forget, in the midst of Muneamania, that Munetaka Murakami’s teammate is nearly matching him homer for homer. Colson Montgomery actually homered in the same game as Murakami seven times in the White Sox’s first 35 games. According to the great Sarah Langs – who had a birthday this week! – that’s the most by any teammate duo in their team’s first 35 games of a season in MLB history.

  • He’s not much more expensive than O’Hearn would have been with an incredible amount more of upside and flip potential.  There is no downside to this deal, as let’s be honest, they’ve wasted 17 mil a y

Offering those contracts didn't cost Jerry a dime.

They probably pay a subscription fee to MSN for an office bundle so they could use PowerPoint to put together their offer package.

They seem like a LibreOffice or Google Slides operation to me.

Can't wait to watch this scene in the movie about the Murakami-led White Sox dynasty

Munetaka "Can't Hit Velo" Murakami is now the only player in baseball with multiple HR vs. 98+ mph

Side note: 22 other players have 1 each, 3 of them are Sox (Vargas, Hill, Meidroth). So the Sox are responsible for more than 20% of the HRs vs. 98+ in the season so far

  • Quin changed the title to Munemania: Murakami leads league with 14 HR

1) looking forward to this roadtrip ending as I cannot stay up.

2) this is astonishing considering the offseason scouting

I also find it amazing how late Murakami gets his foot down and how smooth it all is. Probably more noticeable because of how high his foot goes. But his foot doesn’t go down until ball is at least halfway to plate and he looks so unrushed.

Like the ball is a frisbee floating in the air except it’s at 98 mph.

Jesse Rogers on ESPN Chicago said he's working on a Murakami story due out next week. Named Pirates, Angels, and Padres as teams that got deeper into talks with Mune/his team.

Doesn’t think he gets traded this season, but suggested any extension talks would come at the ASB at the earliest (and more likely after the season)

Some chatter from Sox world, various executives, and the Dbacks coming off of a series against him.

"All we know is the way he's hitting here is different from the way he was hitting in Japan," Thompson told ESPN not long after giving up that 451-foot blast to Murakami. "His holes are not his holes anymore. Maybe why other teams weren't pursuing him is because he had different holes when he was with Japan. He's changed his approach." [...]

"It was a bad miss by everyone," one American League official said. "In-zone miss scares people, and it was hard to project that versus improved pitching. It's one of the blind spots of hitting projection models, so it winds up hurting the confidence for every team."

An NL executive added: "Guilty of weighing the strikeouts too much. I probably did not give him enough of the benefit of the doubt about getting on base."
