I’m just going to say it.  If the rotation can surprise a bit (and I can think there is a non zero chance they can), this team will be sniffing at that last playoff spot.

MLBTR on Pereira

Injury Notes: Simpson, Freeman, Junk, Pereira - MLB Trade Rumors

Quote
  • White Sox outfielder Everson Pereira is currently day-to-day with right side tightness, per James Fegan of Sox Machine. The 24-year-old was acquired in a four-player trade with the Rays in November which saw the team part with a solid reliever in Steven Wilson. On that basis, the team was expected to carry the out-of-options Pereira on the roster as a backup outfielder. That may still be the case since Pereira is merely day-to-day and hasn’t been placed on the injured list. Luisangel Acuña is also on hand, though he will split time between the infield and outfield and shouldn’t affect Pereira’s roster spot if the latter is healthy by the end of camp.

Athletics' starter Jack Perkins @ 2025 Fangraphs:

Athletics Top 42 Prospects | FanGraphs Baseball

Quote

21. Jack Perkins, SIRP

Drafted: 5th Round, 2022 from Indiana (OAK)
Age 25.1 Height 6′ 1″ Weight 220 Bat / Thr R / R FV 40
Tool Grades (Present/Future)
Fastball Slider Curveball Changeup Cutter Command Sits/Tops
55/60 60/60 45/50 30/35 40/45 30/40 93-96 / 97

Perkins has pitched through Double-A (and had bat-missing success) as a starter, but his inability to stay healthy or throw strikes has him funneled toward the bullpen in this projection. Perkins sits 93-95 as a starter and his fastball has bat-missing ride. If he has a velo spike in relief, it will be a comfortably plus pitch. Perkins’ slider already is, though his release variability impacts the pitch’s consistency and quality. Perkins also has a cutter, a curveball, and a changeup, with each representing a smaller portion of his repertoire than the fastball and slider by quite a bit. He may pare that down if indeed he moves to the bullpen, a change that’s in play in 2025 and 2026, as Perkins is likely to ascend to the 40-man roster.

Didn't know the A's signed Muncy. I know Muncy is an aging player who was injured a lot last year, but if he can at least be an average bat and stay relatively healthy, this A's lineup could be a real powerhouse with those other young guys they have. Kurtz, Langeliers, Wilson, Rooker, Soderstrom.

There are two Max Muncys (Muncies?) Coincidentally, both started their careers with the Athletics.

Haha, welp, guess there is. And they both play 3B. Thanks for correcting me 😅

I believe they also have the same birthday (not year) and were A’s draft picks. Pretty wild, really.
