Frank Thomas Suing Sox

Featured Replies

Working in licensed apparel, current players are under the MLBPA. When a player retires the apparel companies usually deal with each player individually, be it through an agent or another entity. Looks like they didn’t get an agreement prior to putting his name and number on the City Connect 2.0 jersey.

Definitely not an exclusive list.

Exactly my first thought. $50,000 is chump change. Frank is probably getting way more than that in annual residuals from Nugenix every time that commercial plays in which the woman wants to cuck her husband with The Big Hurt.

The Sox have managed to burn down Nancy Faust, Hawk Harrelson, and now Frank Thomas in recent years. How's that for some red flags.

Plus, assuming he hasn't hit it yet,, he's less than 5 years from a full MLB pension which is around $290k a year.

I hate to say this, but Frank has always had budget problems. I am sure that didn't get better in retirement.

Didn't he lose a bunch of money over a recording studio? I remember that being something Ozney Guillen throwing out there in the aftermath of Hurt's leaving.

Yep, starts at age 62.

He's lost money all over the place. I even remember him wanting either his A's or Blue Jays contract all up front instead of being paid over the course of a season.

That diminished skills clause that Jerry invoked really screwed him out of some money. 🤣

But yeah, he has been known to not be the wisest with his money.

Buddy ncorgbl has seen the contract and it is not in there

I am thinking of suing the Sox for unnecessary and wanton infliction of pain.

Not entirely his fault. It’s possible all the Nugenix he’s on has drained the blood from his brain.

Don’t bother. Jerry has seen this case before many times and puts his best lawyers on them immediately.

This is the kind of call back I need in my life.

I think you could get a pretty solid class action together.

Frank is that your wallet in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?

Nope definitely not my wallet.

Corboy and Demitri are personal injury lawyers. Were Lerner and Rowe not available?

All joking aside, whether this is frivolous or not, its an embarrassment the Sox don't need with the best player they may have ever had. Certainly the best since JR took over.

DA - Trust me (from my own experience), Corboy and Dimitri is a large prestigious law firm that handles a variety of civil matters. It is possible that other Defendants (i.e., Nike) did not fulfill contractual obligations or they improperly used 35's name and likeness while the White Sox were simply joined as a necessary party to the litigation. This isn't a big deal. Fans who don't know much about this litigation sometimes respond with tired old tropes about Jerry being "cheap, " but come on... Now that a law firm has been engaged and wants their 1/3 cut, it will only make a settlement a little more difficult.

Off topic slightly, I cringe when I see commercials for Nugenix testosterone supplements with Frank and Doug Flutie. It is possible and maybe probable that excessive Testosterone, especially, when abused to obtain sexual enhancement, may prove to have serious side effects over time. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though as my information and opinion on this is were informed by conversations I have had with an old friend who is an oncologist. Whether or not any health issues arise from excessive Testosterone supplements, Frank's involvement with that ("and she will like that too...") is a bit cringe worthy. Maybe stick with royalties from jersey sales.

No one needs this new story to serve as a “tired old trope” that Jerry is cheap.

Jerry signing off on the invoking of the diminished skills clause in Frank’s contract in 2002 is enough historical evidence to say that yes, Jerry was being cheap and valued saving money over pissing off the best player in franchise history.

Michael Jordan had a similar clause in his contract as well.

I guess those team Ambassadorships don't pay as much as I thought.

I feel like they pay them free tickets and players just hope it helps with autograph partnerships. Sort of kidding
