We're on pace for 63 wins coming off the worst season in modern MLB history and a subsequent 100+ loss season. Spare me the dumb troll. In fact spare this forum.

9-14 = .391 win% which projects out to 63 wins. Nope, this is pretty much in their lane. But I guess as bad as things have been, the victory lap ceiling gets easier and easier to take.

  • "Hey buddy, your favorite team finally isn't embarrassing themselves anymore for the last few games. I bet you feel really stupid huh" - yeah, you really got me there lol

ChiSoxFanMike and a bunch of the Twitter weird food accounts are all marveling at how they all got a bunch of Japanese follows once the Sox signed Murakami. I would think throwing Pete Alonzo money at Mune to wrap him up for 10 years would pay untold dividends to the Sox. Like, this is him still figuring out American pitching, and he's on a 60 HR pace.

Love what Mune is doing and I always thought it was possible that the skills wouldn't deteriorate between leagues because that's how some players are - they play up to the competition. That said, I really think we're getting a little out in front of our skis here. As noted in the other thread, he's swinging and missing at nearly half the off-speed pitches he is seeing IN the zone. While "he's figuring out American pitching," hitting is a reactionary skill (which is why people can play up more than in other spots) but pitching is very strategic. Meaning, pitchers are learning about him and how to attack him.

I need to see him adjust to what the league throws at him before I'm extending him for 10 years. His contact rate is literally in the 1% percentile. In the past decade, here are the players who have had a qualified season with a whiff rate of 40+%:

Keston Hiura (2020), Miguel Sano (2020) , Luis Legend Robert (2020), Joey Gallo (2018), Javy Baez (2021).

2020 and the shortened season having 3 of the 5 points to how noisy the stat can be in smaller samples. Those seasons weren't all bad seasons, but it's a very high risk profile with not a lot of sustained success over a long period. Mune is at 41.7% right now. He's got to continue to get better too, which is funny to say for a guy who is mashing.

I always find the "My reaction to this sports team is the exact perfect reaction that everybody else should adopt" flex to be weird.

All this does is bait someone to inevitably post a "See, these guys are garbage" thread when they go on another skid, and the cycle continues.

Fair enough. That said, if he is adjusting back, there's probably a sweet spot where the Sox could extend him at a discount that is somewhere before total free agency.

But the "see these guys are garbage" people never get the pushback or mocking that the "Hey, we just won 3 of 4!!" people. I believe there is a lot of gratuitous doom-casting during a season opening 1-5 road trip where the team never looked in it, even in the game they won. It is natural to push back on that and yell, "well they're finally winning, eat that!!" I believe that's the nature of sports fandom. When your team starts winning, you become happy and give it back to those who declared the team would never win again. None of us are above it. We're all constantly doing a victory lap on the sports-dom Hamster wheel.

Yeah but typically I do that with my friends who are fans of other teams though.. very weird to be doing it of a team were all fans of to be perfectly honest.

Which part? There's a group who just go on about an error, or slump. Beyond the point of being mad about a play, and to the point of looking for a reaction, apparently. I admit I'll post something about extending Chris Getz or whatnot pushing back on the Getz sucks people.

QFT. You nailed it.

If the starting pitching continues a run like this, 14/17 starts with two or fewer runs, sure.

but defense, fundamentais/execution, McGuire and Burke hadn’t stopped a single opposing baserunner, for example, the leaky bullpen, the leaky AL Central…leaky line-up choices by Venable, questionable strategies

Sure Antonacci Hagen Dutch Bonemer McDougal Braden might all succeed, but that’s not how it usually goes

1-1 and 2-41 picks, etc.

Boyer has yet to really capitalize on the Mune market as of yet….we’ve heard of one trip to Japan that was marketing related but crickets só far

The Idea of JR giving out a $200+ million dóllar deal let alone $300 seems pretty preposterous

Getting attached to Mune (bought a Jersey already) and then watching him get traded away to fill in the blank big spending club is going to be just par for the course as a Sox fan.

Also, has good ‘ol Ron ever posted in game threads when the Sox weren’t on top of the world at 9-14 and not the very bottom due to teams like KC and NYM?

Don’t seem to recall much of a presençe.

The fact that you don’t seem to understand Ron’s game here is reason alone that he is probably cracking up right now at your post. I’m still a Ron fan but c’mon, caulfield! 🤣

@southsider2k5 can explain it to you.

I wasn’t referring to you. We all had issues with the site. Some people post all the time, others only post “I told you so’s!” when the Sox string together some wins but ghost out when they are on a losing streak. Either way, people are going to handle their Sox fandom in different ways. I really DGAF, but posters telling other posters how to be a proper Sox fan is lame.

And the VPN happened right when they started winning. Weird indeed.

"If you take away all the teams in the league who are worse, the Sox would be the worst team in the league" is one of the weirdest flexes imaginable.

Só then going by actual record in current year and not merely optimistic projections for 2028-30 is fine?

WE: Nobody could have possibly predicted Vasil Hays S.Smith Teel Acuna etc. being hurt or underperforming.

You’re saying the usual cast of April fill in vet villains aren’t to be scapegoated for consistent lack of depth issues under Getz (like Bido last night)?

Where’s our prized trade acquisition Wiki González, for example?

Finally, are you willing to go on record that Colson and Mune should both be given $100+ million extensions as of today?

Make sure to bet Ron’s money…and, the only panicking going on right now is in VA Texas and Virginia lol.

I mean really, either way is weird. Ultimately though, if they’re winning that’s what we all want anyways so whatever.

Going on about Venable pitching to Muncy with one out instead of the pitcher with bases loaded and little used Jack Gelof coming up with two theoretical outs instead seems kind of relevant.

Did Venable simply assume striking out Muncy there would be easier?

Hey that doesn’t take an Ivy education to figure out…now does it?

As usual, you're just posting sentences that really don't make sense. Who in the world is talking about projections for 2030 except you? You post this crap like it's ridiculous, "ha-ha like 'nobody could have predicted'" But weird enough, nobody actually predicted that all of Pereira, Baldwin and Hays would be out 11 games into the season. Ha-ha, like people even live in a place named "China". LOL. You just made that up.

I'm not saying anything about depth. If your three starters are out, injured, it's pretty obvious that their replacements will be a step down. Because if the replacements were better, they should be starting. Teel seems like he's going to be out longer than all the Surgeon Generals here predicted. "Ha-ha, you said nobody could have predicted Teel would be out longer than 6 weeks." Shane Smith ran into problems, and they replaced him with Noah Schultz. Looks like they had pitching depth. With outfield injuries, they brought up a top prospect in Antonacci. Looks like depth to me.

Bido is a guy they grabbed off the waiver wire to get a look at. I believe they were in the territory of being able to have a position player pitch when he came in. Bido isn't "depth". The waiver wire isn't "depth". I don't know why Wikelman isn't on this team right now. Prized? Did MLB just give him that label? He was the 4th man in the trade. I don't need him to be up right now. They're to the point where, if they want to bring up another reliever, they'll have to cut somebody. Maybe they should get to take a good look at Lucas Sims and Bryan Hudson before they DFA them because you're bored?

I would like the best left-handed reliever on the market they signed to be able to get left-handed hitters out. I would like the best arm on the team to be able to get outs when he's thrown in high-leverage situations like everybody's lecturing me must happen. All the big brains got what they wanted. Grant Taylor in high-leverage. I thought he was supposed to be the best arm on the team. 5 earned runs in 6.1 high-leverage innings tell me different. Maybe the big brains should trust that guys who have been in baseball since they were children have an idea of what they're doing.

What does "go on record" mean? Why do you people think I have the brain damage that will make me start screaming for everyone to be fired if something doesn't play out the way I announced on a message board? And why does it matter when you'll just make up that somebody said something, anyway?
