Is soccer replacing all the US major sports (except NFL) in popularity?)

There are Indian households around the north side, so I semi-regularly see kids cricketing on a playground. That's fun. They probably sit on their bikes outside the back door of their friends' house and just yell their name until they come out.

Out of curiosity I just did a google search on Indian population in Chicagoland area and it is over 235,000 thousand. Making the Chicagoland area the 2nd largest Indian population in the country. Cricket is going to keep growing locally and more leagues will start up.

This conversation happens everytime around the world cup and nothing changes ultimately once it’s over.

I was thinking of 1994 in the US specifically. Then it never happened.

For the first time I have seen Cricket being played while driving past a park in Schaumburg. There is a couple billion people in the world that are Cricket fans.

I have an former boss who owns a cricket club and semi-pro franchise in NJ. The people who are into it are OBSESSED.

Although, they are building a dedicated soccer stadium downtown, right? Baby steps.

Soccer is the worst. I have heard for years and years about soccer's popularity and yet nothing has changed at all in the US. Nobody I know has kids that play soccer outside of when they are 5 and cant really play anything else. They all move on to play the actual popular sports in this country when they are able to.

Soccer will never reign supreme in the US because the best athletes in this country aren't playing soccer and they never will.

Yeah, but I've read that it's being built on a toxic waste site alongside a highly-polluted waterway.

Yes, and it's not just on the north side - lots of Indian households in western DuPage too. This means lots of great Indian restaurants in the area. 30 years ago, we had to drive all the way to Westmont to find an Indian restaurant. There's also a pretty good Indian supermarket (Patel Brothers) in Naperville and Schaumburg as well as the Devon Ave. area.

Without ingress OR egress!

The waiting list for Indian migration to the US is something like a dozen years. There are huge populations here on work visas, and also looking to immigrate. There are massive numbers of well off professionals already here, and many more behind them. You don't have to look much to find them.

I lived in India briefly 25 years ago. Was by far the most popular there, soccer a distant second.
