You don’t undersell on an asset because he wasn’t your pick.

Yeah that would be astronomically stupid. We're talking about a shortstop that was leading AAA in homeruns. Really feels like he put it all together.

Gonzo earmarked for bench/backup thru next year. I understand the trade, if it is a trade.

If any of the infielders get injured, he's a starter.

If the Sox trade Jacob Gonzalez for a comp pick, that's a bad trade. How isn't it? They took him 20+ picks before, spent time and money developing him, he turns a corner and becomes a prospect of meaning and you trade him to... do it all over again?

Yeah it doesnt make sense if the comp pick is the main piece coming back since Gonzalez bat is also needed as insurance in case Murakami leaves.

So there has been zero update about this?

They still have a glut of infielders knocking on the door.

I dont think any of those bats are as good as Gonzalez, except Bonemer.

Totally agree. I just don't think it is likely they pony up for Mune with Jerry still at the helm.

If it’s what we suspect, I think it’s a sign Getz is playing the long game and wants to build this farm up to be a powerhouse and build a sustainable MLB pipeline. Gonzo has nowhere to play so why not deal him for a stud college starting pitcher close to MLB-ready? Could be an overpay but we can’t see their draft board.

That said, if Getz considered Gonzo trade bait and used him to snag a comp pick rather than improving the 2026 roster, I expect the deadline to be fairly quiet for the Sox. You don’t trade a top trade chip away for a comp pick if you plan on pushing in some major chips on this season.

You would think if it was an injury, it would have been reported by now.

If he was in discussions regarding a trade that is either ongoing or fell apart, we may not hear anything unless the trade goes through.

Done. Made a new thread.
