A real lack of pitching seems odd.

For us? Half our picks have been pitchers.

  • You have no clue.

  • I truly think tomorrow they have a shot at turning this into what we will look back on as one of the more special drafts in franchise history!

  • I dunno about you guys but I think it's pretty sweet to be in first place and also have the first pick in the draft.

Write-up on Horn from Overslot:

Horn can do things to a baseball nobody else can. He is a metric darling with a hellish sinker that'll flirt with the low-90s, generating north of 20 inches of arm-side run and tremendous sink. It's quite rare pitchers generate impressive whiff rates with sinkers but Horn certainly misses bats and then some. His sinker ranked among the best in college basebal in 2024, 2025 and 2026 despite struggling with injuries at times.

His slider will sit 82-84, touching 86, eclipsing 3200 rpms and will register north of 15 inches of sweep. Horn has approached 3500 rpm with the breaking ball, something you'll only see from the most elite arms in the game. Horn presents plenty of angles for hitters with a wide release point and a long arm swing that can make it tough to track the ball. His operation is unconventional and a tad inefficient, something that has led to the walks. Horn generates huge torque and hip-shoulder separation with a whippy, rotational front leg and inconsistent landing spot; both of which lead to those aforementioned scattershot woes at times. There may be some low-hanging fruit here to get Horn throwing harder and scouts hope the control and walks come down this spring. This is what leverage upside looks like if it all clicks. He is draft-eligible for the third time.

8 of 16 picks have been pitchers. What draft are you watching?

I wonder who the high school pitcher was that Shirley commented “they are in love with?”

Guys....this is a banger of a draft class.

Reminds me of years past where we’d see drafts from teams like the rays, royals, or Indians and salivate.

Now we get to salivate for our own draft - woot woot!

Great to hear that feedback. Some of the earlier posts in this thread made it feel a little disappointing and I don't know enough about the prospects to know if that was valid or people just being dark clouds.

I really like the pitchers they’ve taken given the dollars likely spent.

That is absurd. Wow!

I feel like they are gonna have a massive sit-down with all these huge power dudes to discuss swing decisions.

At the moment, I think if you reordered this one based on bonus amount our actual draft would look like this:

  1. Cholowsky, SS

  2. Thome, SS (HS)

  3. Prosek, 2B (HS)

  4. Volchko, RHP

  5. Weingartner, OF (HS)

  6. Casteel, RHP (HS)

  7. Segura, RHP

  8. Scolari, RHP

  9. Johnson, LHP

  10. Burdette, OF

  11. Holcomb, OF

I feel like Prosek might get more than Thome.

Wonder if it is Kyle Casteel. Assume that’s the case or the guy on their board got nabbed before they picked him up.

I could see them picking up Prosek with their second round pick having him be unexpected to be on their board and foregoing their targeted HS arm.

If that was the case I’d venture the guess that the guy was Logan Schmidt.

Definitely possible. I was projecting them both at $2.9M, so just gave the tie to the higher pick. But at least some boards have Prosek higher so wouldn’t be all that shocking to see.
