Official 2026 MLB Draft Thread - Picks & Discussion

They should have used #41 for Thome. If taken before then, then pick someone else.

But, if they can get Thome signed for pick #41 value, which is where he should have been picked anyway, that would reduce the ickiness of this situation.

  • You have no clue.

  • I truly think tomorrow they have a shot at turning this into what we will look back on as one of the more special drafts in franchise history!

  • I dunno about you guys but I think it's pretty sweet to be in first place and also have the first pick in the draft.

Jones should be a $7.5k signing. Hope for a couple more as that would imply something big in the 11th or 12th round. FWIW, Shirley specifically mentioned flexing their financial muscle through the 12th.

Usually if you are going to flex - those first two picks after 10th are good places to do it - a bit more efficient than in 5-10 range…but you got to know you have pushed the guy or guys down there….then see where else you have left over for those next picks and if you have risk take a guy late in case you need to pivot to a plan B splurge.

That makes sense. Definitely doesn’t feel like we should be tapped out yet financially.

I will caveat I thought 6 was another spot to do it - don’t think they did per se - but I like what they did. Grabbed a guy who clearly aligns to the dev philosophy. I do hope we see the pitching philosophy start to pan out though.

Disappointed they needed to punt. I like Shirley as an evaluator, still think he leaves a lot to be desired in how he manages the budget. I am extremely skeptical other orgs would have been forced into 10.5 for Roch.

White Sox pick Luke Craytor RHP. Another senior sign. 570 on O-S.

Scouting Report

Bats: R, Throws: R

Craytor is a pure relief play who is up to 100 with cutter traits that could develop the pitch into a true plus weapon. His strikes have been a liability at times.

Craytor's power sweeper is unique for the college game. He'll sit 84-87, generating 13 inches of glove-side break. It's not the most drastic horizontal action of the group, but his combination of velocity and vertical shape make this pitch stand out. Generating -3.9 IVB is sensational, helping to produce a VAA of -8.12 degrees. This is a hammer sweeping breaking ball that's produced gaudy results along the way.

Craytor has size, arm strength and spin traits with the breaking ball that should get him selected in rounds 11-20 to a team looking for a potential leverage arm they can develop.

Wonder if they are going big game hunting post round 10 at this point. Or if we are severely underestimating the bonus demands for some of the previous picks.

It’s always the former. We probably paid out the nose for the 22 year old red shirt sophomore with Tommy John. It’s always the college guys we think get slot and end up 500k over.

if I was Getz I’d start really evaluating the Sox negotiation process. It does not seem premiere to say the least.

Who have they drafted that really warrants overslot? Anyone?
So they certainly should have $ left for some prep guys in rounds 10-15.

Weingartner will absolutely be over-slot.

There was noise the Yankees wanted Thome at #35.

White Sox select Matthew Bucciero. College senior again. OF. Not on any rankings I can find.

Now we wait and see if this money was for previous picks or shots at dudes from 11 on.

I like how every talent evaluator said yesterday the Sox did an incredible job, but apparently not to a group of people who have never even heard of these kids until yesterday/today.

If we go senior here, I have us likely flat to slot worst case scenario on our 5th to 10th round picks. That should leave a good $1.3M to $1.6M to play with for the 11th and/or 12th rounds.

Maybe they feel very good about 7 guys that they feel are top 150 or so, and certainly the first six rounds could be worth all of it. I was hoping the freedom of the comp pick would mean we could end up with a draft chock full of top 250 players and not needing to rob picks to pay up.

But I should have adjusted my expectations what down when they only got way less from 1-1 than I expected.

Another punt. I hope it's for big fish in future rounds, but I'm not holding my breath.

You think they are going to pocket a $1M+?

Time to find out how much Jose's raise is gonna be.
