Roch and Jerry fell in love with each other long ago at the office apparently. Over! Great that the Sox were able to hide that the fix was always in, and faked a bunch of drama to media LOL.

Faked or just made up by people for clicks.

  • You have no clue.

  • I truly think tomorrow they have a shot at turning this into what we will look back on as one of the more special drafts in franchise history!

  • I dunno about you guys but I think it's pretty sweet to be in first place and also have the first pick in the draft.

From Overslot on Teams with Money to Spend on Day 2.

A very conservative estimate would have us with at least $3.8M to work with for rounds 5 to 10. And it’s very possible that figure is actually above $4M.

Baseball America’s Best Player Available is littered with HS guys. Archer Horn is the top rated player left and was linked to the Sox in a mock by Callis. Joseph Contreras is the top pitcher left and has an obvious Sox connection. Could he be the HS arm that Shirley said he liked? Either guy would cost $2M+ IMO.

There are a ton of interesting preps though at what should be a wide variety of price points. Dominic Santarelli is probably the main name that stands out and I feel like his bonus demands should be much more reasonable. Landon Hodge was a similarly ranked prospect and got $1.1M last year. I feel like Dominic is close to a lock for us in the 5th or 6th for something in the $1.3M to $1.5M range.

At minimum, it feels like we should be able to take two more meaningful swings today. And it’s possible that we take three swings if we decide to spread the money around and focus on HS guys in the $1.0M to $1.5M range. I fully expect at least three senior signings today to end the first 10 rounds to help facilitate.

In all honesty, we didn’t really flex our bonus pool muscle yesterday outside of Prosek, so today has to make up for that. The Sox have consistently maxed out their spending in the draft in recent years, so there should be no concerns with us going cheap here. The money will be spent and it’s just a matter of how.

Catching up on the game I missed. Brooke said Roch was in the house and in the locker room for the Braden walkoff game. How cool.

How did they keep this under lock and key

Is Thome ceiling higher than a good Gonzalez outcome?

Sox Machine pointed out that Jim Thome at 18 was a SS and his height and weight was very close to Landon's. Landon is listed at 6'0" 177, a growth spurt is probably to be expected.

Go figure, I am shocked someone didn't blab that out.

I had no idea Jim Thome was drafted as a SS.

This regime is far more tight lipped than the last one because KW never shut up.

For those worried about nepo picks both Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko's sons are draft eligible next year. Both are good prospects though like Thome.

White Sox select Landon Thome with second first-round pick in 2026 MLB draft - Sox Machine

Thome isn't as large as his dad as we know him, but his listed height (6 feet) and weight (185 pounds) are similar to Jim's at the same age. And while the elder Thome mostly DH'd with the White Sox, he was also a shortstop when he was 18.

Landon Thome will likely need to find a different position down the road, but he has the athleticism to stay there for now, as well as the baseball IQ

Hmm, Jim growth was likely fueled by something else... I just can't put the needle on it.

There is a ton of talent still remaining in this draft and the White Sox should be sitting on one of the bigger piles of money. I believe it was ESPN speculating that the risk of potential changes in the next CBA making the draft more team friendly could encourage more preps to take money now and avoid college. I’ll guess we’ll see here soon enough, but should be an exciting day 2 for us.

Quote from Shirley from today after the last round:

“We still have revenue left in our pool, we can continue to start attacking again tomorrow. So that extra space we created last night via the trade is going to pay off in our first ten or maybe our first twelve rounds.”

So does this mean Santarelli (who seems like a Wolkow type) and maybe a HS pitcher?

After sleeping on it I'm pretty excited about the current draft class. It's good. It's solid. But today it could turn into a great class. I imagine they have 3 to 4 million to play with. I feel like Santarelli is absolutely going to be one of the selections. If they could also add in a prep pitcher on top of that I would be pretty stoked. Eli Herst is one of my favorites.

There are also a few guys we've heard linked with the White Sox that haven't been selected yet to consider. Sean Dunlap, Ethan Bass, and Dylan Boewen most notably.

Hoping they take two decent swings today on guys. Fine with punting the rest.

For those that haven't seen Santarelli before. Look at the freaking tree trunks on this kid. The power upside is stupid.

Also, my math on how we

Should be closer to $4M to work with today IMO. Slot value of picks #5 to #10 is ~$2M. The 5% overage is another ~$1M. The real question is how much did we save yesterday.

My conservative guesses are that Roch is $1.3M below slot, Landon is at slot, Prosek is $400k over slot, Volchko is $400k over slot, & Segura is $400k below slot. That would add another $800k and get us to right around $3.8M. I think it’s possible a few of those guys agree to slightly more favorable deals too.

Someone said Roch was 10.5 which if true is about a savings of 800k and change under slot so we might have a little less than you are projecting but who knows until we get specific figures.

I posted it from the Over-Slot day one recap podcast. Joe Doyle said Roch will be for 10.5.

There was also a string of tweets on that on WST.

It may have been in this thread somewhere but definitely on this site, I thought someone mentioned Roch was 10.5 and Emerson was 10, not sure who or if it's accurate but I remember reading that.

Ugh…that’s a major bummer. Now we really got to hope that Landon was a little bit below slot.
