Official 2026 MLB Draft Thread - Picks & Discussion

If happened with Crochet 6 years ago and with Sale 16 years ago. Please give me more examples of them fast tracking pitchers in the same year they were drafted. Jack McDowell in 1987?

I'll happily take this bet.

Which Sox team was competing for the playoffs, had pretty much zero bullpen depth with limited strikeout specialists and almost zero remaining trade capital?

Also, Royce Ring and Addison Reed were both selected to move very quickly to the majors...Aaron Poreda as well.

I dunno about you guys but I think it's pretty sweet to be in first place and also have the first pick in the draft.

Mispronouncing the #1 overall pick's last name is HUGE cringe. Jesus f*** Manfred.

For someone who only really followed the top 3-4 guys for the draft, and select other players (Prosek), what is there to like/dislike about Thome? Other than the bloodline of course, I know nothing about him.

There is at least one more big name coming. I’m guessing the Sox are $0.3M or more under slot on day 1. As mentioned previously, they should have another $1.4M coming from the 5% overage and taking a couple seniors. That would allow them to go to ~$2.2M or more with their next pick. They could also spread those dollars across a couple of picks if they wanted to.

I think they purposely went a bit conservative in the 4th and plan to negotiate a deal with a prep in the 5th over the course of the night.

How much do you want to bet?

During the pre game show one of the analysts said his slider was major league ready...and think it was DeRosa that said he would move the fastest through the minors, or Hamels.

Have already seen this happen with Sale/Crochet.

Granted, those were first rounders.

I’m willing do a permanent ban bet if you are

Don't disagree that their biggest deadline adds are likely to be internal, but McDougal is right there. No reason to think they'd rush a 2026 pick over guys already on the 40.

Once they add McDougal, there is literally no obvious short inning guys to replace unless it’s a material upgrade. Richards could be upgraded upon potentially, but it won’t be a 2026 draft pick that does it. I love how Caulfield just ignores the obvious roster crunch and posts dumb theories to be negative.

The hard part is not knowing if the White Sox can hold first and/or the WC.

If they fade in the second half, there would obviously be no pressure to bring him up.

Just like nobody could have possibly foreseen 28 teams completely passing on Murakami.

You know Brooks Boyer is still here when we're drafting his coworkers kids

So y'all are saying that if Michael Jordan's father worked for Jerry Reinsdorf, drafting Michael Jordan would have been the stupidest draft pick ever? Got it.

OK, so maybe I am missing something, but shouldn't the Sox still have a fair amount of space for some HS picks, either in the next couple of rounds, or after round 10? I don't think the college kids are going over slot, and I can't imagine Thome going over either, so we should still have the extra money, right?

Certainly should. None of the guys selected warranted overslot and Roch should be a bit under.

48 minutes ago, DirtySox said:

Really hard to say. If you have Roch getting 10 million and everyone else getting slot, the Sox have about $4.3 million to work with which includes the 5% overage.

I feel like Volchko might be getting over though. Maybe he's 1.5 million? I'm hoping some bonuses come out tonight via Twitter.

So at least a few million extra, before we even get into some senior signings

Why would it be a negative if the guy you just drafted could help the big league bullpen this year?

They still have lots of expendable slots on the 40 man roster on the pitching front.

I’d expect Prosek to be overslot and likely Volchko to some extent

Except when you get out of line and they don’t draft your kid (Alek Thomas). 🤣

Or for your example, when the employee's kid outright sucks, like Alek Thomas does, and has an attitude to boot. Somebody should have won GM of the year for sidestepping that guy.

Then do the permanent ban bet.

Lol Royce Ring was drafted a quarter of a century ago.

Catching up on the game I missed. Brooke said Roch was in the house and in the locker room for the Braden walkoff game. How cool.

No way. If you don’t know Office Space, you just need to watch it. Period.

On the list of must see with Casablanca, Citizen Kane and Bicycle Thief.

Well they were drafted basically where they were ranked. To pay them overslot is to reach. I hope they are right.

And yet another funky-delivery guy.

Is there enough money left to grab Santarelli or Contreras in the 5th?

High schoolers don’t have to follow that logic

I see @Y2Jimmy0 lurking. He might have some insight into bonus demands perhaps?

Not sure yet. They should have quite a bit of money still.

I think we're on Santarelli watch. There has to be another swing coming.

Santarelli for sure…Contreras is harder to say given his potential bonus demands. I fully expect one or two more preps tomorrow.

Thanks for the info, Jimmy.

What is your analysis and overall thoughts on Day 1?

I'm a bit underwhelmed actually. Need to see the rest of the class.
