It's actually 3 at the moment because the Jays have the tiebreaker over the Astros. It can get complicated if it ends up being a 3 way tie where the Astros would end up winning the tiebreaker on aggregate head to head record.

Easiest way for me to figure it out is since Houston has the tie breaker over us if they go underrated the rest of the way the Astros will finish with 83 wins

We know the situation in the division.

Baseball Reference and CBS Sports this morning prediction odds have the Sox and Guards tying for the Division of course with the Sox winning because of the tie breaker, I guess they think the Sox have the easier schedule but you still have to play the games and for me 1967 is still fresh in my mind.

Just win. Win the first two against KC, and the magic number could be 1 or even 0 by then. But they should still be fighting for the division.

I hope the Sox clinch the postseason spot when the A’s beat Astros late a Thursday night.

Worst record the white Sox can end up with is 80-82. If the Sox go .500, the Astros have to go perfect. By the way Houston are 2-9 against the mariners this year.

Was also just thinking about this. An Astros surge will almost certainly land them in 1st place in the AL west. As long as we play .500, the AL west race for first really helps us in the wild card. For the Astros, to get in 1st it would require a Rangers loss. At that point, we'd finish 83-79. We win the tiebreaker

In my mind the perfect night tonight is Sox, Rangers win. Guardians. Astros lose. First place. Magic number of 2 for the pos-season and 3 for the 2 seed. I’d prefer Texas in the post-season over Houston thus the Rangers win tonight.

Mariners have been historically awful in the 2nd half, their SB Nation site had a really good piece on how badly they've underperformed.
