Skubal to Dodgers

Featured Replies

I will say this though, everyone was 98% sure a lockout was coming December 1, those odds are now up to 100%.

And I'm willing to go out on a limb and say reglar season games will be missed next spring.

How many and how long? No one knows but I don't think this is going to be settled quickly (especially with JR on the labor committee advising Manfred.)

Can't wait to see how much money is deferred in the extension he signs next week to get ahead of the CBA

    Disgusting.

Wild times. The Dodgers are like the mlb team you create on franchise mode in the show and you set the mode settings to be able to acquire anyone you want whenever you want however you want

This move has nothing to do with payroll, as even the Brewers were willing to take on his remaining salary.

It has everything to do with who can actually sign him after this year. And the only teams that can probably do that are the Dodgers and Yankees.

It kind of does though - a team that has been able to spend so much on free agency has allowed them (along with great drafting and player development) to be able to build a surplus of prospects that it can easily afford to deal where as other teams that can’t go to that free agent well as much just can’t afford to necessarily give up the same draft capital without having to worry about the long range consequences.

Credit to Dodgers for how they have done this though. Extremely well ran.

I so hope they get knocked out of the playoffs early. F’n ridiculous.

Or let’s swing for the fences of hope and pine for them to lose the World Series to our Chicago White Sox in the greatest upset in the history of upsets.

This - I want to be at one of those World Series games too!!!

Owners have to absolutely love this - gives them more ammo in their fight against the union.

My 11 year old son walks in and just had a meltdown…mlb is rigged…this isn’t fair.

Good kid. I probably would have done the same.

Just curious - what would the equivalent package have been from the White Sox?

Bonemer, Hagen Smith, and Blake Larson?

Though I still think Detroit likely prefers the dodgers package.

Down worry guys. I'm in the process of making a Skubal voodoo doll. The needles will be going right into his throwing elbow.

Major IF on a couple of their guys. I know why the dodgers did this for multiple reasons and I don’t blame them one bit.

Let’s bring our kids and do it if it happens - would require a fundraiser or selling my left nut with the prices of tickets in LA but oh well.

Why - after the Sox win the World Series this year, Skubal is going to join them as a free agent as the Sox win another world series as they go on one of the greatest runs in baseball history!

Haha seriously - it would probably be cheaper to buy airfare and hotel and go to a game in Chicago haha

I expect this same dedication for EVERY SINGLE PITCHER WE FACE for the rest of the year.

This sport is so stupid.

Truly fucking broken

Dodgers are hamstrung in multiple ways with respect to building up prospect capital but they are simply very good at baseball talent evaluation/development so everyone gets to be mad at them.

I think people are mad at them for outspending many teams by 2x & 3x

https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/article/the-dodgers-with-tarik-skubal-now-in-the-fold-become-even-more-imposing-infuriating-and-inevitable-044401640.html

"Remember, the current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire in December. A messy labor war between the league and union is hurtling down the pike. A lengthy work stoppage is expected. The economic system that emerges from that mess might not involve a salary cap, but it also might. Skubal should get a Brinks truck on the open market regardless, but there's a chance that a deal from Los Angeles under the current system proves more lucrative than the alternative. It's unclear as of now how preexisting contracts would be handled under a new structure, but Los Angeles almost certainly could spend more on Skubal today than in a few months' time.

Of course, that's a tomorrow problem, a flashpoint for our future selves. The here and now involves Skubal in Dodger blue. That alone won't determine the outcome of this baseball season. But it feels like it could. For many, that's enough to feel overwhelmed with despondence.

The Dodgers and their fans? They shouldn't care one bit."

Yet still had the clear #1 farm system and basically got Sasaki for a pittance...well, because they're the Dodgers.

As someone who has rooted for the Dodgers as their NL team since Mannywood was a thing, I hate the deal. Not because of the money but because of the lack of prospects. That was the best deal you could get for the best pitcher in baseball???

It should’ve been the top 3 prospects not this.

Ryan/all about health

the hitter is an acknowledged great prospect (so was Torkelson) with a questionable body who ends up at a corner or DH...Yordan Lite

Not even going to get their best prospect for a two month rental unless he's willing to sign an extension like Freddy Garcia did with the Sox.

(Unless you're dealing with a river boat gambler like AJ Preller...)
