The Glaring Question - Sox Starting Pitching

Featured Replies

Bold prediction which may not be so bold… Davis will be shut down with a phantom injury and Thorpe will make his return in his place on 8/18 against the Cubs.

We have to production down the stretch and in the playoffs from what had been our Number 1 spot in the rotation for the first half.

This has been a black hole taxing our entire team. Of all our challenges and areas to improve, this is just too glaring to remain stagnant.

There is a reason most of the entirety of Soxtalk wanted Getz to get us two starting pitchers. He failed us as fans and failed this team.

What say you… anybody got something?

I agree with this caveat. We don't know how much if any input/restrictions JR had in the situation at the deadline.

And a blister on the pitching hand isn't a phantom injury.

I missed the blister news… haven’t been able to give the Sox much attention the past couple days. That’s good news as far as I’m concerned… finally an explanation that isn’t hot air.

And yea - makes sense with potential restrictions but you have to think there HAD to be at least one more arm we could have brought in.

Edit: Like Foster Griffin - I don’t recall what the Indians had to give up for him but his 5 IP 1 ER line against Detroit sure looks nice right about now.

At least we have good old TBD throwing tomorrow followed by Kay and Burke.

Who is pitching tomorrow?

MLB has TBD listed.

Apparently, CBS has Urquidy listed. 😲 Let’s see if the two time TJ recoveries can be overcome and we are able to give him one last ride.

Looks like Shane Smith and Drew Thorpe both had promising lines in their last starts today and yesterday.

Maybe we weren’t failed and the answers are already within after all.

Apparently Urquidy is first man up. Will be very interesting to see how that experiment goes.

Newcomb is starting tomorrow. Bullpen game.

You named the three options they have left, unless some veteran pitcher gets DFA’ed by a bad team. The order they each get a shot is the question.

Thanks for the blister news. It just appeared to me that he's hit a wall with his innings mounting. He's not the same guy he was 2 months ago. That said, if they shut him down for 10 days, let the blister heal, his arm has a chance to bounce back. I think he's only pitched 9 total innings in his last 5 starts. That plus an IL stint, and hopefully he bounces back strong.

Huh - odd, other publications have Urquidy listed as the starter. Maybe he’s the long man and Newcomb is opening?

If we get first half Martin back it will be the biggest contributing factor possible. Would be MASSIVE.

Looks like he’s listed on mlb.com - which I trust WAY more than CBS Sports. Though, the Urquidy spotting there is odd.

Really makes me think we’ll see an official transaction / announcement soon.

Word. That all but squashes the Urquidy rumors for me.

Against team with best AL run differential for last two months starting at Comerica?

I think the thing that will save Martin is the suspension that they likely won't appeal. The suspension will be 5 games and that'll be his IL stint.

Boooo, I wanted to be correct on one of those polls for once. Booooo I say.

He got not just tossed but suspended too? Fucking retarded umpiring crew that series.

Almost every ejection like this will end in a suspension.

Am I the only 1 that wants to see Urquidy at this point? I don’t expect anything great, or even good, but if I had to bet on 1 of our options to give the team 5 innings and 3 runs he’s probably in the top 5.

Gonna predict Shane Smith starts next week

Can Asian jersey manufacturers keep up with the overwhelming jersey demand the next two months?
